It is a great time to be alive and an even better time to be a lover of football. It also means that Seniors are concluding their careers and most are getting their film highlights together in order to hopefully play at the next level, or just to preserve a special time in their life. When we put it into perspective senior highlight films really are an opportunity for a young man to proudly show what all of that time and effort was for. With that in mind I am excited to start taking a look at 2023 seniors as their Friday Night Light careers wind down. Hope you enjoy.
Brandan Lee Brandan Lee 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Park Of Cottage Grove | 2023 State MN – (Park High School) 6’0 180 Lbs. C/o 2023. @BrandanLee_7
A majority of Brandan’s film is on the defensive side of the football. Although he is a kid who could play either side, I do see defense as the area he may project to the next level. There are some good cover reps on film but where he really excels is in supporting the run game and open field tackling. He has a strong understanding of leverage and is an excellent sure tackler. I think he could be a pretty flexible secondary piece who can cover and especially play a nickel type safety in college.
Anthony Sykora Anthony Sykora 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH West Central Area | 2023 State MN – (West Central Area) 5’11 185 Lbs. C/o 2023. @anthony_sykora
Play one on film gives you a sense of what type of physical player Anthony is, he enjoys that part of the game. Then we get to see him offensively as well. He is a smooth athlete who does damage out of the backfield in the pass game. There is a patience and understanding of when to set up blocks and when to go get it when he has the ball in his hands. This is a talented offensive player with the ability and demeanor to play defense. Ultimately, I see him as an instinctual player who will find his way to be effective wherever he plays.
Mark Rogalski Mark Rogalski 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB Saint Thomas Academy | 2023 State MN – (St. Thomas Academy) 6’0 190 Lbs. C/o 2023. @Markrogalski2
STA is obviously still in the midst of their season and hoping for big things as the fall concludes. Mark gives them the ability to man up on the outside while pressuring other teams in the run game. He is very good in press, and does a nice job especially playing a low trail technique in man. What I really like from the film is although he plays a lot of man coverage, he still finds opportunities to come up and support the run game and is an outstanding tackler. This is a player you can trust in man coverage which opens up opportunities for the defense to be aggressive.
Sean Robinson Jr Sean Robinson Jr 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Cretin-Derham Hall | 2023 MN .- (Cretin Derham Hall) 6’1 175 Lbs. C/o 2023. @SR2023
There is some rawness to Sean’s game which really gets you excited because he is nowhere near his ceiling yet. He is a long and fluid athlete who can impact a game in many places. His film shows offensive, defensive as well as a number of special teams reps. He is a very good return man but his ability to play on the coverage units as well gives you a multi-tool player. As he continues to develop his length and speed will be a matchup issue for teams on the perimeter.
Nolan Israelson Nolan Israelson 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Andover | 2023 State MN – (Andover High School) 5’11 205 Lbs. C/o 2023. @NolanIsraelson
Clip one and Nolan is timing up a blitz and leaping over the offensive line in a full-on swan dive! In the end that play may have been an offsides but it shows his passion for the game as well as an element of fearlessness. To me he presents as a true box linebacker. He has the athletic ability and effort to make plays outside the box but he is best when he is in the middle of the field. He understands blocking schemes and he does a great job of avoiding blocks and getting to the ball carrier. This is an exciting tackling machine in the middle of the field!
