Here’s a look at players who stood out for Lewis Central:
The coach’s son ranks as one of the state’s top signal callers. He arrived in Cedar Falls having thrown for 29 touchdowns against just two interceptions. He added 11 scores on the ground. The Northern Iowa commitment made himself at home in his future home. He displayed a strong, accurate arm allowing him make all the throws necessary at the FCS level. He’s a good athlete as well, aiding him in operating when a play goes off schedule.
Humpal didn’t post gaudy numbers heading into Cedar Falls because he’s been nursing injuries. He looked plenty healthy on his first carry of the semifinals, ripping off a 58-yard touchdown run. He showed an extra gear defenders could not counter. He boasts good vision and burst. He’s dangerous running to the boundary but can also pound it up inside. In addition, he’s a weapon in the passing game.
Highlights
The junior caught a long touchdown pass and intercepted one in the semis, showing his athleticism and versatility. He displayed really nice reaction time on the pick, making a nice read on the throw. Witte runs well and boasts good size with long limbs. Safety or receiver could be his spot on the next level. He has options.
Moore serves in multiple roles for the Titans, showing he can run, catch, return and defend. A solid athlete, Moore could develop into a well-rounded safety at the Division I level if he continues developing and showing out at camps.
Ludington is undersized for a middle linebacker but it doesn’t keep him from making plays. He runs really well and gets off blocks with solid technique, strength and hands. He’s a good football player and chances of succeeding at the next level are high if given an opportunity.
