This was the divisional round, which means trophies were handed out! In Divisions 1 and 2, there were great games up and down the board. In D1 alone, there were 2 games decided by 1 point, and one overtime game, and 3 more games decided by 2 scores. This was an incredibly competitive week of football! Here’s the Rapid-Fire review for Division 1 & 2!
Division 1
Caledonia defeats Rockford 14-13 (2OT)
This was an incredible, surprisingly low-scoring game. This was a far cry from Cal’s 38-15 Loss against Rockford on October 21. Mason Mckenzie Mason Mckenzie 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Caledonia | 2023 State MI ended up taking the game into his own hands, scoring the game-winning TD on a QB Scramble. This is Rockford’s second-straight divisional loss at home.
Grand Ledge defeats Holt 21-20
The Capital-Area Blue has been doing incredible in the postseason. Grand Ledge, East Lansing, and DeWitt are all divisional champions, and of course, Holt was incredibly close to winning here. Grand Ledge vs. Cal will be an interesting one.
Clarkston defeats Davison 49-40
Ethan Clark Ethan Clark 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB Clarkston | 2023 State MI owned this game as he rushed for over 300 yards. Both teams played their hearts out, but Clarkston never trailed during this contest. It’s crazy how good Clark and the O-Line are, while Clarkston has multiple studs on defense.
Adams defeats Rochester 28-14
This was an extremely close game for most of the contest. Rochester fully played to their potential and simply lost against a better team. Rochester played very well, but Adams is the 2021 runner-up and they still have a ton of talent from that championship team. Unsurprisingly, the OAA Red has been performing pretty well, and Adams will face Clarkston in the Regional round.
Belleville defeats Saline 62-44
This was an incredibly close matchup before Belleville pulled away in the 4th-quarter. It was impressive to see CJ Carr CJ Carr 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Saline | 2024 State MI and Bryce Underwood Bryce Underwood 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Belleville | 2025 State MI battle it out, but Belleville is, without a doubt, the more talented team. Even with Head Coach Jermain Crowell suspended, Belleville wins.
Catholic Central defeats Northville 42-17
CC once again plays great defense, this time against Northville. The KLAA has not been faring well in the postseason with the exception of Belleville and Franklin. Still, a good season for Northville and a playoff win.
Cass Tech defeats Southfield A&T 25-14
Cass Tech has improved throughout the season, and the young talent on this team is extremely impressive. These were two title contenders, and the fact that Cass Tech won by two scores is impressive.
Dakota defeats Romeo 17-0
Dakota has dominated the MAC-Red, and they’ve left absolutely no doubt. This is a dominance the MAC has rarely seen, and this is Dakota’s best shot at a state championship in a while. Cass Tech will be the best team they’ve faced all season, but I think they can pull it off.
Division 2
Forest Hills Central defeats Mona Shores 33-21
FHC has silenced any and all haters. Mona Shores is an incredible program with A-Tier athletes, but FHC hung in there and pulled away for the victory. I am extremely interested in going to FHCs next game against East Lansing.
East Lansing defeats Portage Northern 34-24
Yet another team from the Capital-Blue with a huge playoff victory. East Lansing just had the better athletes, as they scored an impressive 34 points against a physical defense. This team is versatile and can surely compete or even beat FHC.
Midland defeats Mott 41-34
It’s Midland’s turn to silence the doubters. Mott is well-known to have an amazing offense but lacks defense, and this time the shootout didn’t go in their favor. Next weekend vs. Dexter should be a physical battle, but Midland will be the underdog.
Dexter defeats South Lyon 24-7
This game was tied at halftime, but Dexter pulled away in the 2nd-half. Dexter just seems to be the team of destiny, as this program shot up from the ashes and is producing multiple Division 1 athletes. South Lyon, on the other hand, continues to prove to be a strong team, but just like last season against Traverse City Central, they ran into a better team.
Franklin defeats Bedford 27-7
Not a shocking outcome here, as Franklin is a Championship Contender while Bedford is a great but inconsistent team. It’s actually slightly surprising that Franklin won by nearly 3TDs. Franklin will be favored against Groves, and if they win there, it’s extremely likely they’ll face defending champion De La Salle in the Semifinals.
Groves defeats Seaholm 26-12
Groves forced 5 turnovers against Seaholm’s Veer offense. If you know anything about the Veer, you’ll know that turnovers are killer. The Falcons have absolutely embarrassed the Maples, as they are responsible for 2 of 3 of Seaholm’s losses, both games in which they were the underdog.
De La Salle defeats Roseville 37-7
Same story, different game. De La Salle dominates, and I think they’ll walk into the semifinals.
L’Ance Creuse defeats Lakeview 49-7
Good job from L’Ance Creuse making it to regionals, but I’m afraid they’re about to run into a brick wall.
