Continue ReadingI had the chance to scout the matchup between Rochester & Sacred-Heart Griffin live during Friday’s contest. This game will go down as a classic as Rochester picked up a demanding lead, at one point being up 28, and ended the first half with a 14 point lead. This lead then climbed to 21 with SHG not having an answer to Rochester’s high scoring performance. Next thing you know, SHG ends up getting back to back turnovers on Rochester to get them back into this game and this momentum switch was what turned the time in the game. SHG then went on to score 35 unanswered points to punch their ticket back to the 4A IHSA State Championship with a 56- 42 comeback win. That being said there are talented young men on both teams and we’re here to cover a few that caught my eye. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Sacred-Heart Griffin prospects to know.

Mr. Singleton started the game off on a hot start in the return game finding the alley and using his foot quicks to break a long return setting his team up in good starting field position. There’s no doubt that everyone knows how dominant of a player this young man is and the fierce competitor that he is being able to make big time plays for his team. That is exactly what he did in the 2nd on a 4th down player going up for a 50/50 ball on the back pylon to secure the contested catch for a TD. This was the starting point of SHG fighting to get back into this game and giving them hope to continue to fight back from a deficit. He’s also a threat in the screen game where he can take the receiver screen and get vertical quickly where he has the ability to break a long run for 6 if defender’s don’t rally to the ball quickly. Overall, the Air Force Commit was in full display showcasing why he’s a top receiver in the state and I’m very much so looking forward to seeing him compete in the state championship game again like I did last fall. Highlights
Tyaire Lott
Tyaire Lott
Mr. Lott has been on my radar for some time now and was a force in the ground game in his Friday night’s performance. This young man has legs to him as he runs QB design runs as well as has the ability to pull the ball down to scramble if nothing is open downfield. The latter is where he was shinning the most as it seems like he has nowhere to go with everyone covered but he was able to find an alley to escape the pocket and pull the ball down to stay ahead of the sticks. In some instances, he was able to keep his legs driving to fight for extra yards once he was met with initial contact. One the route to get back into this game, this young man showcased his arm talent by adding zip on level 2 throws on seam routes across the middle of the field and a touch on level 3 throws giving his receiver’s a chance to secure 50/50 balls in the endzone. The result was him finishing with 3 TDs (2 passing & 1 rushing) with 1 INT and 1 fumble. Needless to say, this young man has the mental fortitude to continue fighting through tough cracks in the game giving him team a shot at coming away with the victory which is exactly what happened in this contest. Mr. Hamilton took snaps both as a wideout and as a safety where he was able to make his mark in this contest. Starting off with his defensive performance, he showcased his ability to play the alley well by closing quickly to secure tackle for loss on the perimeter and was making open field tackles on a consistent basis all night long. This young man also has potential as a wideout where he can win over the top with his quick release off the line of scrimmage. He was able to do this on more than one occasion beating the cornerback on a deep shot downfield and came away with a TD in the 4th to tie the game by going up for a 50/50 ball to secure the contested catch. Also is committed to Quincy University to continue his basketball career. Twitter
Mr. Jackson has a good burst through the hole to stay ahead of the sticks and almost ended up breaking a few long runs for six before getting shoe string tackles at the last moment. His burst is deadly as if he gains a step on 2nd level defenders he can be off to the races for 6. That’s exactly what happened in the 4th on a 4th & 1 play where he was met in the backfield but kept his feet driving to break the grab tackles twice before breaking free to break a long run for 6. He finished the night with 3 rushing TDs, two in short yardage in the redzone and the last being the 30+ yard run in the 4th. Overall, this is one of the highly talented young men on SHG’s high powered offense.
Madix Morris
Madix Morris
Mr. Morris was the catalyst in swinging momentum heavily into SHG’s favor as they went on to score 35 unanswered points to secure the comeback win. This all started when he was able to jump the route along the sideline to secure the interception and use his foot quicks to break a long return giving his team great starting field position. Switch over to offense and the very first play this young man is able to bend the seam route out of the slot to secure the catch in the middle of the field for 6 getting his team on the board. The momentum swing by these two plays was too much to overcome for Rochester as the following possession SHG continued to use this momentum to force a fumble and continue the momentum switch by scoring off that turnover as well. In terms of the skill set of this young man, he has potential both as a rangy safety and a slot receiver. Both of which he uses his change of direction and foot quicks to his advantage to come away with big plays for his team. Twitter
