Park Hill South vs Staley: Top Prospects & Performers

Last Friday night in the first round of the Missouri high school football playoffs I had the great view from the sidelines at the Park Hill South vs Staley match-up. The game was high energy from the start as both teams traded scores and kept it close before an offensive explosion happened that led ultimately to a PHS 50-40 win over the Falcons. Here are my observations from the game of the top prospects & performers I watched.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   [player_tooltip player_id='103404' first='Briggs' last='Bartosh'] | 2023 | 6'0" 190 | QB/ATH   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Briggs_Bartosh1-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-498632" /></figure>   Briggs is among the best athletes in the state of Missouri. He can do it all as a dual threat QB with his passing and running skills, along with helping out on defense at DB on occasion. His future is likely as a receiver in college, although I could see one of the service academy's that he has offers from giving him a shot at quarterback. Bartosh led the offensive explosion for the Panthers. He set a school record with 6 touchdowns passing and rushing while racking up 387 all purpose yards. He threw for 5 of those going 11 of 198 for 253 yards and also had an 81 yard TD run.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   [player_tooltip player_id='275125' first='Mike' last='Lane'] | 2024 | 6'0" 185 | WR |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Mike-Lane.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-498634" /></figure>   Lane played a big roll in the Panthers win with his 6 catches for 143 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night. Lane is a good route runner who does a nice job finding space and making himself available to his QB. He also has good skills running with the ball after the catch or on jet sweeps. He pretty much did it all including getting behind the Staley defense using his speed and catching the deep ball. Just a junior, Lane will see interest from colleges pick up in the off season.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   [player_tooltip player_id='199482' first='Darrien' last='Jones'] | 2023 | 6'0" 205 | RB |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Darrien_Jones1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-498635" /></figure>   The senior running back ran hard and was also a nice receiving option for QB Bartosh. Jones is a nice North/South runner with nice burst in the open field and can make big plays. Max has good size, feet and is physical. He has nice punch, does a good job sustaining his blocks on both the run and pass pro. He displayed good athleticism against some quick opponents. Look for him to continue to rise on college radars in the offseason.     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   Jah'marion Kane | 2023 | 6'4" 230 | DE/EDGE |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Park-Hill-South-vs-Staley-125.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502444" /></figure>   One of the top rising senior breakout performers of the 2022 high school season in Missouri. Kane is a high level athlete who was all over the field and meant business at the point impact. He's hearing from some college and JUCOs at the moment based on his play this season. He's a player who should continue to get better as he progresses and reaches the next level.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   [player_tooltip player_id='1233948' first='Brock' last='Harmon'] | 2025 | 6'3" 230 | DL |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Brock_Harmon1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502455" /></figure>   A high motor sophomore DL prospect had a good night against Staley. Harmon is a physical lineman who can play inside or out along the D-line. He likes the battle and gets after it rushing the passer or chasing down ball carriers. He looks like he has the strength and frame to where he could play DT in the future.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   Kiros Martin | 2024 | 6'2" 210 | DE/EDGE |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Kiros_Martin1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502467" /></figure>   Another quick, athletic DL for the Panthers who looks like he will play LB on the next level. Martin is quick, explosive and has good speed. He did a nice job running down plays and swarming to the ball with his teammates.     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   Jayvius Smith | 2024 | 5'10" 165 | CB/S |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Jayvius-Smith.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502479" /></figure>   Smith is a speedy DB prospect who has recently made the move to safety and did a very good job during the game utilizing his speed and cover skills. He's also a physical defender and sure tackler.       <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   STALEY     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   [player_tooltip player_id='275011' first='KV' last='Stone'] | 2024 | 6'2" 220 | RB |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/KV_Stone_21.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502495" /></figure>   The powerful Stone is a load for one defender to try and bring down. He did a nice job running between the tackles and picking up yards, including after initial contact. He has good burst and speed when he gets an opening and can pick up large chucks of yards or take it to the house. He's also a solid receiver out of the backfield. He has good size and overall athleticism to go with it. He's hearing from multiple colleges already and will no doubt make the rounds to several D1 schools.     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   [player_tooltip player_id='181580' first='Jayven' last='Stallings'] | 2023 | 6'4" 190 | WR |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Jayven_Stallings1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502512" /></figure>   The big receiving target was there all night. Stallings is a long receiving target with good speed and reliable hands. He faced tough, physical coverage from a talented defensive backfield all night and did as much as he could to help keep the Falcons in the game. Jayven runs nice routes and gets separation from defenders as the ball is being delivered. He does a good job of using his size to put between DBs and the ball, and he showed good toughness. He took some big hits and held on the the ball.     <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   Tyler Kerkoff | 2024 | 6'4" 290 | OL |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Tyler-Kerkhoff.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502514" /></figure>   Another powerful OL prospect in the game was Kerkhoff, who did a nice job helping opening holes for Stone against a swarming defense. Tyler has good strength and above average athleticism at his size. A strong run blocker who did a nice job against Park Hill South's athletic defensive front. Just a junior who will no doubt see colleges come calling in the off season.   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   [player_tooltip player_id='328991' first='Robert' last='Collins Jr']. | 2025 | 5'10" 165 | CB |   <figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2022/11/Robert_Collins1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-502525" /></figure>   A speedy sophomore cornerback with a very bright future. Collins brings track speed to add to his solid football skills that continue to get better every week. He has good coverage skills and toughness against the run. He's not afraid to be physical at the point of attack against runners and does a nice job technique wise. If he continues on his current trajectory he will be a highly sought after football prospect in a couple of year. A lot of upside to this young football player.
