MHSAA Football Playoffs

Times are critical now. If you lose you are going home. The regular season record is out the window. What your team did last week is out the window. Janet Jackson once asked what have you done for me lately? That's the energy during this time of the year.

Raleigh vs Wesson

You will see this said a lot, but this is going to be a good contest. I don't think people realize the talent Wesson has on their team. The question will be can their young superstar [player_tooltip player_id='402099' first='O'Mari' last='Johnson'] step up to the plate. [player_tooltip player_id='106167' first='Suntarine' last='Perkins'] has been here before and wants to get over the hump. Can Wesson hold off the Mighty Lions?

Raleigh is a team that has been through a lot this year. Two of their players passed away at different times. It's hard to go through that type of adversity and still keep your head down to play. They have done that. Perkins has been a workhorse for this team all season on offense. You can count on him to continue to do that. He is a leader and that's what he wants to do. He does it all for this football team. However they will have their hands full on the defensive side of the ball.

Raleigh is going to want to be very disciplined this week. Wesson possesses a lot of weapons on their team. [player_tooltip player_id='108932' first='Will' last='Loy'] is a very good quarterback and he knows how to pick a team apart. I think Raleigh is going to want to put a lot of pressure on him. That's something a lot of teams haven't done. You can't let him stand comfortably while picking your defense apart. Zone blitzes can possibly be your friend this week. Too much man coverage will allow Loy to get loose with his feet. He isn't the next Michael Vick, but he can pick up some yards on the ground.

Wesson is going to be tossing the ball around. We all know that. Omari Johnson is one of the best freshmen in the nation and he knows how to score points. He is a guy that can line up on the outside at receiver and be very harmful to your defense. His game is very quick. They get him the ball fast and let him use that speed to get by defenders. He has been scoring on upperclassmen as if he already is an upperclassmen. Sometimes they even put him in the backfield so he can tote the rock. This guy is a beast.

On defense Wesson is going to need to be ready to deal with the run. Raleigh is going to try to wear them down and keep that high flying offense on the bench. Wesson needs to find a way to be physical this week and prevent that from happening. If not it will be a very long game for them. Which will be the Lion game plan.

Winona vs Amory

Hope fans are ready for a showdown. This is going to be a very good game. I'm counting on it. These two teams are both loaded and know how to win. Amory is 3A state runner up wanting a trip back to Hattiesburg. I can't wait to see this one unfold.

Winona loves to mix things up a lot. They have a very good offensive line lead by [player_tooltip player_id='910463' first='TJ' last='Lockhart']. He is a big boy that creates a lot of holes. Winona has a lot of different options on offense and it starts in the trenches. Their playmaker guys know how to step up when their team needs them.

Winona has a very stout defense. Frederick Clark also known as [player_tooltip player_id='139603' first='Fred' last='Clark'] is the leader of this defense. Fat Clark is another name that he goes by. Clark is a true stud that stands big and strong in the middle. He is a guy that you don't want to let loose on your running backs. They also have [player_tooltip player_id='380571' first='Javien' last='Jackson'] who is stud as well. He gets after quarterbacks on the defensive line. He will be a linebacker at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id='1126766' first='Tyler' last='Lockhart'] is another stud on this Winona defense. This defense is good and has what it takes.

Amory is a very good team. These guys are loaded as well. [player_tooltip player_id='349437' first='Kobe' last='Williams'] and [player_tooltip player_id='281786' first='Hayden' last='Dozier'] will be paving running lanes for a very good running back. Names like [player_tooltip player_id='108968' first='Charleston' last='French'] is going to standout. He is a guy that will be everywhere on the field for the Panthers. You are going to want to stop him on offense. He is a heavy load that also has speed. He is going to be packing a mean punch. Allen Dobbs is just a sophomore, but he knows how to go get the rock. These guys are going to show up ready to play against this Winona defense. I think their key will be to be balanced. Keep this defense on their toes. Don't allow them to sack your quarterback too many times. Let French have a diverse game.

Amory has a good defense that knows how to get after it. Dobbs comes to that side and plays free safety. [player_tooltip player_id='286476' first='Elijah' last='Spratt'] is also a big name on that defense. These guys are nice in the secondary. They know how to get after the ball to make big plays. This will be a great game that you don't want to miss.
