The teams that secured a first-round bye are gearing up to make their postseason debuts, while their challengers are coming in after earning a first-round win. The 3A classification is entering round one of the postseason.
Several big-time games are going on this week, and this article will preview the Friday and Saturday match-ups I will attend and the players on the radar.
#11 Erie (7-4) at #6 Denver South (9-1) | Friday, November 11, 2022 | 6:00 P.M.
The Erie Tigers will be traveling to face Denver South after cruising through Air Academy in Saturday’s round one match.
Pregame Perceptions
This matchup between the Tigers and the Ravens has the makings to be one of the more exciting games in the second round. Both teams have a roster full of talent, making each team capable of pulling off a win. Denver South has been on fire this season, with their only loss resulting from a nail-biting game against a playoff-contending Golden squad. The Ravens have an explosive offense led by a dual-threat quarterback with the running attributes needed to give defenses absolute fits.
The Tigers finished out strong after a tough start to the season. Erie’s dual-threat quarterback has found himself in multiple positions on each side of the ball, including special teams, making him one of the more dangerous athletes for the Tigers. With Erie looking to reach the state final for the second consecutive year, they will need to use every advantage at their disposal to advance to the next round.
With both teams having dynamic offenses, the focus for this game will be on both defensive squads. The defense with the most success forcing punts and turnovers will likely be their team’s winning factor.

#15 Windsor (7-4) at #2 Broomfield (10-0) | Saturday, November 12, 2022 | 1:00 P.M.
The Windsor Wizards will travel to Broomfield to take on the Eagles after handing business against Bear Creek in the first round.
Pregame Perceptions
The Eagles are making their postseason debut following an undefeated regular season with one of the more underrated rosters in the state. Broomfield’s defense has been dominant on every level, while their dynamic offense has been led by one of the best quarterbacks in the 2023 class. Broomfield will enter this game favored to win, especially if they can stay in full swing after the bye.
The Wizards are a resilient team with overlooked talent on their roster. They have an explosive offense led by a senior quarterback who has done an excellent job at taking care of the football by avoiding turnovers. The focus coming into this game will fall on Windsor, primarily on the offensive side of the ball. Last week’s win was accomplished with a freshman at the helm for the offense, raising questions surrounding the quarterback situation and if they’ll be able to put the Eagle’s defense on their heels to control the time of position.
