While Marquette still had some promising talent on display, CBC took control of the game early and ran away with a 42-7 victory to advance to the Class 6 state semifinals. Both teams had several impressive players but these are the ones that stood out to me the most on Friday.
If I had to choose a Player of the Game from Friday night it would’ve easily been senior running back Jeremiyah Love Jeremiyah Love 6’1″ | 195 lbs | RB CBC | 2023 State MO . The Notre Dame commit put on a show on Friday, running the ball eleven times for 139 yards and three touchdowns. He showed great vision, finding the running lane and coming downhill in a hurry. Once he hit the open field, Love showed tremendous speed, simply running away from the defense for long runs. He also showed the elusiveness to make defenders miss and the strength to run straight through them. Love also played corner on defense and showed solid man coverage skills with the ability to open up and mirror opposing receivers.

Another CBC offensive skill player that was very impressive on Friday was junior wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan Jeremiah McClellan 6’0″ | 185 lbs | WR CBC | 2024 State MO . McClellan finished the game with five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. He showed tremendous speed on the outside, allowing him to simply run right by defensive backs in the deep passing game to create separation. McClellan also showed the ability to create separation with quick breaks in his routes. He was very electric after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness to turn screens and short passes into big plays. McClellan was able to turn one screen pass into a long touchdown. Jeremiah currently holds a long list of Power 5 offers and I expect that list to continue to grow as he is a very special talent at receiver.

The third offensive player that stood out to me for CBC was junior quarterback Cole McKey Cole McKey 5’10” | 180 lbs | QB CBC | 2024 State MO . McKey had a solid day before being pulled early in the blowout, completing 11/20 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions. He was able to show solid decision making and accuracy on his short and intermediate passes, putting the ball where his receivers could catch it in stride. McKey also showed a decent arm with the ability to stretch the field, keeping the secondary on their toes at all times. Cole doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect him to be a player that college coaches will be paying close attention to going into his senior season.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior defensive back Doreon Dubose Doreon Dubose 5’11” | 150 lbs | DB CBC | 2024 State MO stood out to me the most. He finished the game with seven total tackles and looked great in coverage. Dubose was used in multiple roles in the secondary, playing both outside corner and safety. At corner, he showed the ability to mirror the opposing receiver in man coverage and stay in their hip pocket. When playing safety, he was able to read the play and come downhill to provide support against the run. He showed that he is a very reliable tackler in the open field once he gets to the ball carrier. Dubose also made an impact on special teams, returning a blocked field goal for a touchdown in the first half. Doreon doesn’t hold any offers yet but he will be a player to watch going into his final season as he has the talent to play at the next level.
The biggest bright spot in a tough night for Marquette was senior wide receiver Gavin Marsh Gavin Marsh 6’0″ | 180 lbs | WR Marquette Senior | 2023 MO . Marsh seemed to always be open on several drives on Friday, catching eight passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. He showed tremendous route running skills, using smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. Marsh also showed very dangerous speed in the deep passing game. When the ball was thrown his way, he showed the ability to adjust to the ball and make acrobatic catches. Gavin currently holds offers from Eastern Illinois, Dayton, and Valparaiso, and also has a PWO offer from Missouri, and I expect him to develop into a very productive receiver at the next level wherever he chooses to go.
The young man throwing Marsh the ball also had a solid outing on Friday. Senior quarterback Jack Ahlbrand Jack Ahlbrand 6’2″ | 190 lbs | QB Marquette | 2023 State MO completed 16/39 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown on Friday. Ahlbrand showed off an impressive arm with the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride in the deep passing game. He also showed solid mobility in the pocket, avoiding pressure many times. Ahlbrand showed that he can either tuck the ball and pick up yards on the ground or keep his eyes down the field and deliver accurate passes on the run. Jack doesn’t currently hold any offers but I believe he deserves some attention from college coaches as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior defensive end Alex Bray Alex Bray 6’4″ | 240 lbs | DL Marquette | 2023 State MO stood out to me the most for Marquette. The Illinois commit only finished with three total tackles but did make his presence felt throughout the game. Bray played with a high motor and was able to use his strength to drive the opposing offensive lineman back to create disruption in the backfield. When the play was away from him, Bray showed the ability to read the play and get to the ball in a hurry. Once he got to the ball carrier, he showed that he is a very reliable open field tackler. I’m excited to see how Illinois develops Bray at the next level as I think he has the potential to be a special player for them down the road.
