Dillon O’Connor
Dillon O’Connor
O’Connor and the passing game looked like they were going to help the Falcons run away with the game. He made three strong throws to the outside early. Then, he capped off a touchdown drive with a quarterback draw. Later, throwing out of his end zone, he stayed composed and got his team out of a hole with a twenty five yard completion. He used his legs to pick up a first down. He was great on throws to the outside, and none was more clutch than his throw on fourth down to keep a drive alive. He made an in rhythm, quick throw to the outside. Then he made a perfect throw on a crossing route near the goal line. Finally, he used his feet, made a cut to the outside, and picked up another first down.
Scheevel is a complete running back who – despite the loss, might have been the best player on the field. A great combination of footwork and power, he made two cuts on one run to pick up yards when there wasn’t much room. His explosive cut up the field picked up positive yards when there wasn’t much room. Then, he bounced off a tackle for a ten yard gain. He showed how physical of a back he is with a run up the middle for ten yards. He showed patience, picking his way for seven yards. He spent much of the game running the ball lined up in the shotgun at quarterback, but he also threw a touchdown pass out of that formation. He showed his power by running over tacklers for ten yards. Then, he should have been stopped for no gain, but he broke two tackles and bounced the run outside to pick up another first down. He showed quick feet making two cuts near the line of scrimmage, and used his speed to score a forty yard touchdown. He kept the game alive with a ten yard run on fourth and one. As a defensive back, he deflected a pass from his safety spot and deflected a second pass on a deep ball.
Corson was all over the field on the offensive side of the ball. He showed speed around the corner, then caught a pass and made a series of moves to turn a five yard gain into a 15 yard gain. Then, the senior made a catch on the outside, broke a tackle, and turned a three yard gain into an eight yard gain. He showed great concentration and grabbed a low pass – just off the ground – for a first down. He showed his speed around the corner and his quickness with a sharp cut up the middle for ten yards. He showed strength, breaking an initial tackle to pick up a first down. He made his best play in the second half with a diving catch for thirty yards. A crossing pattern on the goal line set up a first and goal. Possibly his most important play was on fourth and twelve. He caught the pass short of the sticks and broke a tackle to pick up a first down. He even got on the stat sheet on defense with an interception.

This group – especially in the first half – was dominant. No one guy stood out in true offensive line form, but as a group, they were nearly perfect in pass protection. Sometimes it seemed like O’Connor could have been sitting in a lawn chair, waiting for guys to come open.
