Mullis just became one of my favorite recruits in the state. Sometimes, you flip on tape and you’re caught so off guard you have to refresh the page to make sure it’s the right guy. Sure enough, Mullis is that dude. No doubt about it and he’s as electric as they come. He’s a dynamic athlete who is just as good in the running game as he in the passing game, where he can throw darts. When he’s on the move he knows to square his shoulders up and let it rip. With seemingly a flick of the wrist he’s able to launch the ball 50-yards. The first play I came across he was flushed out of the pocket, squared his shoulders, and delivered a DIME into the back of the endzone from 40-yards out. 2 defenders on his receiver and Mullis put that ball where his guy, and only his guy, would have a shot at it. Sure enough it hit him right in the chest for 6. Mullis is also an elite runner who can, and will, gash you in the running game. He’s got elite speed, fantastic vision, and has a fantastic feel for the pocket and when to go. This season he had 40 total TDs. 23 through the air and 17 on the ground. He looked incredible doing it and helped lead West Lafayette to an undefeated regular season. Mullis has the frame, the arm, the legs, and natural instincts to develop into a fantastic QB at the next level and I’ll be very curious to see where that is and how they utilize his skillset.
Peyton Cross Peyton Cross 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Sheridan | 2023 State IN – Sheridan – RB/LB – 6’1″ 230lbs – 2023
Cross is fantastic athlete with his ability to play both sides of the ball, and can even get his hand in the dirt defensively and make plays. Offensively, he’s an incredibly hard RB to bring down. He’s got an incredibly thick lower frame and is able to run through more tackles than the average man. He’s able to lower his shoulders and deliver the boom as well. He’s got elite contact balance and is one of the hardest backs to bring down in the region. He’s a thicker back, but actually has fairly good speed for his size as well. He’s able to gallop down the field with his longer strides as well. While I haven’t seen much film coming out of the backfield or in pass protection, I imagine he’s capable but needing development. His offense now has him in I-formation from time to time which is just great for young backs. Cross is more of a straight line runner and is going to make you pay if you get in his way. Cross is a well-built, tough, and powerful back who is more than likely going to come in and at the very least, be a Red Zone back for someone. There’s a lot Cross can do and if he can develop into a 3-down back, he could feast at the collegiate level.
Micah Coyle Micah Coyle 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Center Grove | 2023 State IN – Center Grove – RB – 6’0″ 185lbs – 2023
Coyle has had a huge year and has looked like a complete back again this season that schools should be lining up for. This dude can tote the rock at a high level. His 1283 rushing yards and 12 TDs on the year are both amongst state leaders in 6A. Coyle is someone we highlighted heading into the season as someone going under the radar and it’s still true. He’s an explosive athlete who has gotten better each time he’s stepped onto the field. He’s got a great natural feel for the game and things going on around him. He’s able to burst through small holes, stay small, and keep his balance. He’s got fairly good feet and quick feet as well. I thought heading into the year Coyle had some areas he needed to improve, pass pro and being a receiver, and he has. He’s come a long way in both of those categories. He’s a thick bodied back who isn’t afraid to stick his nose right into the heat of the fire. Everything he’s done to this point on the field has been impressive. He’s elusive, makes great cuts, and just has a knack for picking up extra yards before he goes down. Coyle is one of the best backs in the state with how he carries himself on the field. Having the right swagger and confidence to your game can be infectious to teammates around you as well and Coyle has that type of potential influence. I like Coyle and am really excited to see where he ends up.
Henry Martello Henry Martello 6'3" | 265 lbs | OL Culver Academy | 2024 State IN – Culver Academies – G/DE – 6’4″ 265lbs – 2024
Martello is a violent player on the interior of the line who has made his presence known since his first snap of varsity. Some guys are rare and have that switch. I always say “Store your psycho” for the field. Well, Martello is another living example of that. When he gets on the field he lets it loose. He’s got that “IT” switch and can play angry, yet under control. He’s going to bury his guy and put them in the dirt. He’s got fantastic balance and control of his own body as well. My guess, is he’s got some sort of wrestling background which you love to see. His tape last year was exciting and showed similar promise. This year, it’s been a step up and he’s a bit more refined. He’s nimble and good on the move when he’s asked to do so. He’s able to win his 1 on 1’s and help redirect when needed. He’s got violent hands and a strong punch. For his age, he feels fairly decent mechanically but as always there’s going to be room to improve. Martello’s frame is real as well. He’s well built, thick, and has room to grow as well. There’s a lot to like with where he’s at now and where he could easily be when he graduates. If not already, I imagine Martello is going to shoot up boards once schools get a good look at what he can do.
Quinton Wilson Quinton Wilson 5'8" | 145 lbs | ATH Castle | 2024 State IN – Castle – DB – 5’9″ 150lbs – 2024
Wilson is an incredibly sound player who has no issue playing every down on defense and then staying on for Special Teams and make a play there. Whether he’s been asked to line up in man coverage, zone coverage, blitz, or play the run Wilson has made the play when it’s come his way. He hasn’t had a ton of opportunity in the passing game because he’s stayed on top and locked down his receiver in man coverage all year. Literally, Wilson did not give up a single catch in man coverage. He messaged me saying that so I went and checked, the hard way. We love Max Preps for posting full games. From everything I saw, Wilson was true on that statement, and in impressive fashion. He’s batted balls down, stayed on top, and frustrated receiver after reciever. He’s got a natural feel for routes and what they have to run based on the situation. Wilson has a good head on his shoulders and is able to react and make the play. While I know size is going to be a knock on him right now, I don’t think it should be. He’s gritty and could very well still shoot up a few inches. I mentioned he’ll play Special Teams and Wilson is a fantastic return blocker in the punting game. He made it a point to stand out by putting his guy in the dirt time after time. Wilson is going to make some college program happy when the time comes and sometimes it’s as easy as that.
