#4 Wilcox @ #1 Pima
Pima enters the semifinals after blowout wins over Camp Verde and Chinle. They went 9-1 in the regular season with thir lone loss coming against the #1 seed in 3A Thatcher. They’ll also get a rematch against Wilcox who they beat in the regular season 27-14. It aligns perfectly, as Pima has blown out everyone they’ve beaten this season besides Wilcox and Morenci (21-20), who is also in the semifinals against Scottsdale Christian, a team they beat 42-7. Pima has the advantage since they’ve seen and beat everyone left in 2A thus far. Wilcox comes off an 8-2 regular season, with their 2 losses coming against no other than Pima and Morenci. They blewout Holbrook last week 51-12, and now get another shot to take down Pima, something nobody in 2A has been able to do yet. I know that loss to Pima can’t be sitting well with them, so expect this game to be an all out war for 48 minutes.
#3 Scottsdale Christian @ #2 Morenci
Scottsdale Christian comes off an 8-2 regular season, with their two losses also coming against Pima and Morenci. Since their blowout loss against Pima on September 30th, they’ve had absolutely no problem with pretty much anyone despite that close 30-22 win over Veritas. Morenci gets exactly who they want to match up with in the 2A semi’s, a Scottsdale Christian team they beat week 1 at home 30-6. Morenci’s only loss on their 9-1 season came on the last week of the regular season where they dropped a close 21-20 game vs Pima. Morenci is the clear favorite in this one when you take a variety of things into consideration (strength of schedule, margin of victory, etc..), but we’ll find out Saturday night who will move in to the 2A Championship, and I know Morenci wants another crack at Pima for ruining thir undefeated season.
