Due to the abundance of eligible recruits, some high school athletes have become recruiting collateral damage. I’m going to be highlighting some of the underrated or unheralded prospects around western pa in the 2023 & 2024 classes. These recruits spotlighted are either uncommitted or haven’t been offered altogether in a lot of cases. These gems will be introduced in a series of articles to adequately spotlight their abilities.
Daniel Long
Daniel Long
Long has D1 capabilities & has fielded offers from FCS Sacred Heart, Presbyterian & D2 Cal, Slippery Rock, Gannon, Glenville State, West Liberty, Notre Dame, and Wheeling respectively. Daniel has a swift get off & uses his violent hands well pass rushing. He’s a bone-crunching hitter that goes hard every down. The senior DE makes plays consistently behind the line of scrimmage. Long redirects well in run pursuit and is a problem blitzing the Quarterback. Daniel’s motor doesn’t stop, he had 4 sacks against 5A Woodland Hills earlier this season.Â
Jaymont currently has offers from D2 Bluefield State, Wheeling & Notre Dame College. Green-Miller was 1st team All-State in 2021 after finishing the season with 5 Ints, two of which were returned for scores. The Sto-Rox senior is an explosive athlete with tremendous body control changing directions. Jaymont has above-average ball skills catching & intercepting deep passes down the field. The 23′ DB is competitive in man coverage & consistently contests the ball at the highest level. Green-Miller’s also a dangerous return man that will be a great special teams player for some lucky program.
Logan’s a versatile O-Lineman prospect that plays with great effort. The senior lineman has been getting D1 looks in recent months on the recruiting front. Greer plays with good power & strength generated from his low pad level. His low center of gravity allows him to get underneath the pads of the defender when blocking. He’s agile & very physical overall in various phases.Â
Highlights
Austin has secured an offer from FCS Dayton so far to date. Caye displays a sharp football IQ that allows him to diagnose plays quickly in real-time. From the DB position, he does a great job of making plays on the football. The senior DB is a sure tackler that isn’t afraid of collisions. He possesses 4.5 speed and shows great agility running the football on offense. In the season opener Caye displayed great hips, and overall DB technique intercepting 2 passes from the Free Safety position.Â
Cagney has been receiving some D1 interest taking Game-day visits to FAMU & Miami, OH in 22′. He’s a powerful, agile lineman that has a good bend. Smith can be a D1 DT or Offensive Center. He runs his feet well on contact & is skilled at getting proper hand placement. He plays with a nasty demeanor & finishes plays to the whistle. Defensively, he’s mobile for his size with a violent mentality. Smith’s athleticism will be a great attribute interior pass rushing collegiately.Â
Taylor is an explosive athlete overall that displays a lot of collegiate potential. He possesses breakaway speed with the ball in hand. At Defensive Back he has good play recognition & anticipates passing well. The 2023 athlete is explosive & he transitions well covering receivers. Khalil plays bigger than his 5’9 160 lbs frame, & he possesses the speed that makes him dangerous returning.Â
