Every single Thursday on Prep Redzone Oklahoma, we’ll take a look at five players that you need to know about heading into the week of games. This week, it’s Fall Break for a lot of the schools around the state so the majority of games this week will take place Thursday night. We still have a few marquee games on Friday night, but the majority of players listed below will be in action tonight! Be sure to check back every Thursday for the Players To Watch feature and then again every Sunday for our Top Performers!
Well this game just got much more interesting in the span of a week. Jenks will travel to Moore on Friday night and the Trojans are angry after suffering a rare loss to Norman North last week. But things don’t get easy for them as they face another quarterback who is having an outstanding season. Last week, it was Kamden Sixkiller Kamden Sixkiller 6’4″ | QB Norman North | 2023 State OK , this week, it’s fellow senior Denver Wolfe Denver Wolfe 5’11” | QB Moore | 2023 State OK . The Moore QB doesn’t have the same physical stature as Sixkiller but his numbers are outstanding this season. Wolfe has thrown for 1,500 yards and 22 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions. He’s also added five touchdowns on the ground with one rushing touchdown in the last five games. The Lions started off the year 3-0, suffered back to back losses but got back in the win column with a blowout win over Southmoore last week. Wolfe and the Lions look to be the latest team to hand a loss to the two-time defending state champs from Jenks.
It’s the game of the week this week on Thursday night as #1 Union hits the road to face off with #3 Mustang. The district championship will more than likely be on the line and we’re looking forward to seeing these two state title contenders square off. One of the big storylines to come out of week six was Union senior Grayson Tempest Grayson Tempest 5’11” | WR Union | 2023 State OK starting for the Redhawks at quarterback as sophomore Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6’0″ | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK sat out. Following the game, it sounds like Reisig could have played but Union wanted to give him a week of rest. It should be expected to see him back in the lineup on Thursday night. But either way, Tempest is a player to watch. Whether he starts again at quarterback or lines up at wide receiver, where he’s become Union’s top receiving target, Tempest is going to have a big role in Thursday night’s game. Both teams have excellent offenses and we could end up seeing a bit of a shootout.

In Class 4A, one of the bigger games features Elk City hosting Chickasha. Elk City is riding high coming off a big win over defending champion Clinton a few weeks ago. They appear to be the new favorite in that district. However, Chickasha has bounced back from an early loss to Marlow with four straight wins and they are knocking on the door of the top ten rankings. They can put themselves in the driver’s seat for the district crown with a win over Elk City. Leading the way once again will be senior running back Malek Murphy Malek Murphy 6’0″ | RB Chickasha | 2023 State OK . We’ve been high on Murphy since seeing him following his sophomore season. He’s putting it all together this season as he’s made running for 250+ yards look easy several times this season. But Murphy and Chickasha will have their toughest test of the district slate this week as they face Elk City. With a win, they can all but lock up the district title next week at home against Clinton.
We say this all the time when we’re writing about Verdigris senior linebacker Reese Roller Reese Roller 6’0″ | 210 lbs | LB Verdigris | 2023 State OK but it’s the truth. You won’t find a more productive linebacker than Roller over the last three seasons. And because of that, it’s mind-blowing that he doesn’t have more opportunities at the next level. This season, Roller already has eight sacks, leads the team in tackles for loss, and has become a goal line running back on offense. He leads the team in rushing touchdowns as well. On Thursday night, Roller and the Cardinals will welcome in Cascia Hall as Verdigris looks to bounce back following their upset loss to Bristow. Roller and the Verdigris defense will be in the spotlight as they face a Cascia offense that is not shy about what they want to do. They will run the ball and use three or four different players to get the job done. Get ready to see a few collisions in this one as both teams are still battling for the district title.

Carl Albert junior running back Xavier Robinson Xavier Robinson 6’2″ | 225 lbs | RB Carl Albert | 2024 State OK has very quickly established himself as not only one of the top running backs in his class, but he’s become one of the best overall running backs in the state. The standout junior has looked outstanding throughout the season and the Titans will need him to be at his best again on Friday night when they face off with #2 Bishop McGuinness in OKC. Robinson has run for over 1,200 yards and 21 touchdowns already through seven games. The Titans still have their two toughest district games remaining with Friday night’s game against McGuinness and then they also still face off with Guthrie. Carl Albert is also starting to get healthy as we come down the stretch of the regular season. We expect to see the Titans once again in the mix for the 5A title. They can take a step towards claiming the district title with a win on Friday night at the expense of their rivals.
