<p>With the playoffs just around the corner, the best teams are starting to peak. The best players in the Charleston area also begin to show consistency as they lead their teams in a quest for a state championship.</p>

<p>Week nine in the Charleston area saw a bevy of great performances. One of the top games was turned in by Woodland 2023 quarterback <strong>Sudarian Harrison</strong> in a 34-28 loss to Barnwell. The clash between two undefeated and top five AA teams was a classic and Harrison did his part in giving his team a chance to win.</p>

<p>The 5-11, 175-pound Harrison completed 11-of-13 passes for 158 yards and one score while adding 106 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Harrison has seen his recruiting take a major jump in recent weeks, earning offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. He is currently a baseball commit to USC Aiken but will likely choose football in the end.</p>

<p>Goose Creek 2023 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='91143' first='Drew' last='Moore'] continues his strong finish. The Gators clinched the region 6-AAAAA title with a win over Wando last week. The Mercer commitment threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns.</p>

<p>Cross High knocked off Class A 10th-ranked Baptist Hill, 54-0, to claim the region 8-A championship. Two key performances were turned in by running backs <strong>Santory Jones </strong>and <strong>Carmello Montgomery</strong>.</p>

<p>Jones rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns, going over 1,000 yards for the season. Montgomery scored five rushing touchdowns and rushed for 115 yards. He also returned a fumble for a sixth touchdown on defense,</p>

<p>Philip Simmons defeated 10th-ranked Hanahan, 22-0, to clinch second-place in region 8-AAA. The hero of the night was junior <strong>Michael Spagnardo</strong>, who blocked two punts and recovered one of the blocks in the endzone for a touchdown. The first block set up Philip Simmons' first touchdown on a short field.</p>

<p>Two SCISA performers posted big nights in leading their teams to wins. Porter-Gaud quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1360313' first='Tony' last='Brown']</strong> rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns in a one-point win over Cardinal Newman.</p>

<p>First Baptist running back <strong>Elijah Denson</strong> returned from injury that cost him four games to rush for 233 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Ben Lippen. Denson is the son of Charleston Southern head coach Autry Denson, the all-time leading rusher at Notre Dame.</p>

<p>Summerville 2023 running back <strong>Marquez Spells</strong> turned in another big-time game in a win over rival Ashley Ridge. Spells rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns, pushing him over 1,000 yards for the season.</p>

<p>James Island 2024 linebacker <strong>Ty Maxwell</strong> was the area's top defender in week nine. Maxwell totaled 13 solo tackles, including six tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles in a win over Hilton Head. The Trojans improved to 8-1 on the season.</p>
