QB #5 Cameron Richardson (6-1 186) Senior – Richardson had a big game against Lee-Montgomery on Thursday night at the Cramton Bowl. Richardson started the season at wide receiver, but when the Lions began the season at 1-2 overall and with two straight losses, Lions head coach B.J. Wallace switched to insert Richardson into the QB position, where the Lions have won their last five games. Richardson completed 10-of-16 passing for 265 yards with a touchdown, an interception, and a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Richardson does a great job of keeping those eyes downfield looking for his big play receivers. Richardson has a strong arm along with an accurate arm. Richardson has good size on running the football and can break a tackle on the run. The senior QB has a lot of confidence in hosting #2 Auburn at home on Friday night.
WR #8 Kam Shanks (5-9 165) Senior – One of the most electric receivers in Class 7A. Shanks had three receptions for 60 yards, a touchdown, and a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown. The senior WR is electric. He has great speed and cutting ability once he has the football. Shanks has excellent speed and tremendous hands. Due to his size, Shanks has to be a great route runner to get open. Shanks has made some outstanding catches in the last two seasons for the Lions. Not only can he make the big play at receiver, he is an asset as a kickoff and punts returner with his running ability. Shanks has committed to D-1 Liberty University. He just was selected to the Alabama All-Star team that will play the Mississippi All-Star team at the end of the season.
WR #15 Kelvin Blue (5-8 142) Sophomore – Blue had two catches for 57 yards and a touchdown against Lee-Montgomery. The Sophomore WR had the best catch of the game on a 28-yard touchdown reception from Josh Browder in the fourth quarter. Blue made a leaping catch and had to high point the football for the score. Blue is a very athletic player with a big future for the Lions. Blue has solid hands and can go deep on the long ball. Blue can go up and get it in traffic with his jumping ability. Blue has excellent hands with good speed and only will get better with more playing experience. Also, Blue helps out blocking on running plays.
Lee-Montgomery
QB #8 Bryson McGrew (6-1 173) Sophomore – McGrew is another solid sophomore quarterback in Class 7A. In the game, McGrew had a 77-yard touchdown run along with a 13-yard touchdown run. The Sophomore QB had over 100 yards passing along with 100 yards rushing with two touchdowns. McGrew does well on reading the pocket to see if he can deliver the pass or take off if pressure is coming his way. He has great speed that can run away from defenders when he gets to the next level. A brilliant football player that is learning the position. McGrew will get stronger to throw the deep ball but knows where to throw the football.
Central-Phenix City
QB #1 Jaylen Epps (6-1 190) Senior – Epps Epps completed 12-of-16 passing for 163 yards and a touchdown against the #1 Auburn Tigers Friday night. The Senior QB helped the Red Devils score 38 points against one of the best defensive teams in Alabama. Auburn came into the game only giving up two touchdowns a game, but the Central offense had a big night. As the Red Devils running game was clicking early, the passing game did enough to keep the Tigers defense off balanced for most of the night. Epps can throw the deep pass with a lot of touch. Epps made some big throws in the win. Epps had a big touchdown pass to Karmello English Karmello English 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Central | 2023 State AL on an 18-yard touchdown pass play right before halftime. Coming out of the locker room, Epps scored on a 50-yard touchdown run that gave the Red Devils a 28-3 lead to start the second half. Epps is a good runner but is not afraid to stay in the pocket to make the pass.
RB #21 Romello Green Romello Green 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Central-Phenix City | 2023 State AL (5-10 18) Senior – Green played a significant role in the win over Auburn. The senior running back rushed for 106 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Green kept making big runs to get first downs, picking up yardage, keeping drives alive, and getting big first downs. Green scored on a 40-yard touchdown run in the first half, where he weaved in and out of the Auburn defense for the score. Many defenders had a chance to bring him down but couldn’t bring him down. Green has excellent vision and can run between the tackles. The Senior RB has good hands catching the ball out of the backfield. Green is very elusive once he gets to the next level. He is a critical piece to the Red Devils’ offense.
