So, let’s look at some freshmen who have some serious potential and see what we can find.
Hudson Parliament Hudson Parliament 6'4" | 290 lbs | DL Brandon Valley | 2026 State SD – DL, 6’3″ 240lbs, Brandon Valley
Parliament has quickly shot up on my ranking list of freshmen that I will be watching and you should be doing the same with the talent that this kid shows on the field. What he can do is so much more than be a DLineman and be a true trench warrior and has shown flashes of being able to take over a game. His run stuffing is the first thing that I see when I watch film of him, he can shift around on the line and fill just about any gaps that form. The running game seems to be stifled when he is on the field and is making an impact at the variety level for a top team in AAA. Parliament is developing his ability to rush the passer too, he has shown his speed and agility to power through offensive linemen and get into the backfield to disrupt the flow of the game. That is the best way to describe what he does on the field, he disrupts any flow that is trying to form and brings the game to a halt with his top-tier defense.
Jordan Herrlein – T/G, 6’0″ 235lbs, Mitchell High School
Herrlein is showing his ability to play a premium offensive lineman position and the ability to shift around the line along with blocking it well at a high level. He already has the physical capabilities of a standard offensive lineman who can move around and block at a high level by stopping all kinds of defenders. He mainly slots in as an outside tackle who mainly protects the pass at a high level, he protects his QB well and does that by stopping all kinds of edge rushers. Power rushers and other kinds struggle facing him since he can get the first step on him and stop them without committing penalties at any rate. If you want to shift him inside too, he can be a run blocker who carries along the traits from outside blocking and he can stifle defensive linemen to make holes for his team. Herrlein being able to play a valuable position this early and do it so well bodes well for his future, and it seems his forging a path for a successful one.
Brayden Bowman – QB, 6’2″ 155lbs, Aberdeen Central
Bowman has been taking some snaps at the QB spot for the Golden Eagles and so far it seems he is off to a hot start and showing some skills with it. He is your standard dual-threat QB but he does it a little bit differently from the tape I have seen, he is more of an escape artist with an arm on him to launch down the field. While he has some accuracy issues at times, that is something that can be fixed with time but it is offset by the big plays that he can create at any time. His potential as a playmaker that can also manage a game makes him a QB prospect that can rise up the ranks of the state, and can truly develop into an elite threat. His rushing game is based on motion and that motion greatly benefits him, being able to go off for big and big gains. Bowman has shown some flashes of being an elite player mixed with some of the growing pains we see with football, but if he keeps up with the work he is doing, I have no doubt he will be a high-level talent.
Lawson Lodmel – DE, 6’2″ 180lbs, Tri-Valley High School
Lodmel is an intriguing pass rusher, and player that seems to do so much while being bound to one position. Lodmel gets most of his snaps as a defensive end spot but has also taken some at the OLB and DL alike, showing that he is not slotting into one defined role and can do so much with it. As a DE, he likes to be an explosive force off the edge and can blow by defenders with his speed, while he can get stifled and knocked over, he truly has a great ability to track the QB to get some sacks. His speed is where I could see him being more of an OLB role since he is quite fast and can keep up with wideouts and TEs, and give you some solid coverage out of it. On the DLine role, he stuffs the run and is s general brick wall for his defense. He has much to work on like his swim moves and general defensive IQ but that comes with hard work and studying, something I have no doubt that Lodmel can do.
