That task becomes much simpler when you have a workhorse running back in the backfield. Several teams have that luxury, including the schools who are represented on this list. Today, we are going to look at who some of the Class of 2023’s premier running backs are as they gear for the playoff push.

Robert Lamar Robert Lamar 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Clarksville | 2023 State IN has been turning heads throughout his high school career. Now he will be looking to grab the spotlight when it matters most during his senior campaign. Lamar has a running style that is fluid. He makes things look easy when he has the ball in his hands. When it comes time, though, Lamar does not shy away from the physical side of the game. He can lower his shoulder and pick up extra yardage the hard way. Lamar has the ability to create a big play every time he gets the ball. Gibson is a shifty runner who has a knack for gaining chunks of yards. Gibson is a solid receiver as well. He enters this week having carried 127 times this season. Those carries have netted him 835 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Gibson is averaging well over six yards per tote. Gibson has snagged 15 receptions with two of those being for touchdowns.

Damon Sturm Damon Sturm 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Terre Haute North | 2023 State IN has spent his final high school season tearing it up in Terre Haute. Not only is he a good runner, Sturm can do more in the passing-game than most running backs. He has the ability to be split-out wide and run routes more akin to what the wide receivers and tight ends run. As a running back, Sturm provides the crucial ability to be durable and carry the load for the offense. So far this season, Sturm has ran the ball 114 times for 900 yards. He has taken five carries to the house. Sturm has come up with 20 catches for 221 yards and pair of scores.

Any team looking for a running back who can be physical and wear down the opposing defense should look no further than Pike’s Jeremiah Berry Jeremiah Berry 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Pike | 2023 State IN . Berry does a nice job of getting downhill and picking up the yardage needed. This makes him a great option in short yardage situations. Berry can be difficult to tackle. As a receiver, he shows good instincts. When serving as the check down, his highlight film features multiple plays where he got himself into a better position for his quarterback when there was pressure. This helps turn negative plays into positive ones. Berry has amassed 528 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He has caught 11 passes, chipping in an additional 146 receiving yards.

Caleb Marcus Caleb Marcus 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Brownsburg | 2023 State IN has the poise and the ability to be a significant contributor at the next level. Marcus can run well, both on the outside and between the tackles. Marcus has the vision to spot cut-back lanes. If the defense has over pursued to one side, he can spot another opening and get there to keep the offense moving. When he makes his cuts, he does so in a way that is quick and subtle, so as not to give the defense much of an indication as to where he is going next. Currently, Marcus stands at 456 rushing yards and seven touchdowns for the season. He has added 161 receiving yards.
