The home-standing Bears captured a 23-0 victory, clinching the district title and ending a losing streak to the Regals dating back to 2005.
Here are some players who stood out (we scouted West Branch last week, as well. More scouting reports on the Bears can be found HERE):
Levi Daniel
Levi Daniel
While the sledding was tough on this night against a stingy West Branch defense, Daniel flashed at running back, where he normally mixes burst with power. He’s more impressive to me on defense, where he lines up all over, including cornerback. That’s impressive athleticism for someone who also can slide down into the box. He could be a hybrid LB/S on the next level with strong coverage skills and an ability to stop the run.
Poynton lines up at middle linebacker for the Regals, showing sound eye discipline in diagnosing plays. Once he identifies, he flows well to the ball and wraps up soundly. He also helps move teammates into the right spots, both in front of him and behind. His frame can take on good weight without him losing his impressive athleticism, giving him some positional flexibility on the next level.
Gentry Dumont
Gentry Dumont
The head coach’s son helps out his father all over the field. He mainly plays quarterback on offense, where he spins a nice ball and also can beat defenses with his legs. That athleticism allows him to line up at receiver on occasion. His college future might be in the secondary as a safety, where he runs well and has room to grow.
Drew Streb
Drew Streb
Streb plays with impressive leverage as an athletic offensive guard and versatile defensive lineman. He comes off the ball well on both sides of the trench and plays with physicality. With another season to add strength, technique and knowledge, it will be fun watching him grow.
John Devery
John Devery
Devery holds down left offensive tackle for the Regals and does so very well. He boasts long arms that work well in pass pro, and his size, strength and leverage allow him to plow open holes in the running game. He’s more advanced on that side of the ball than he is on defense, but he also possesses the athleticism to be disruptive there.
What Boelk lacks in size he makes up for with heart and speed. The coaches love getting him the ball in space either through the air or via jet-sweep action. When it’s in his hands, he usually makes something happen. Defensively, he’s a smart player in the secondary, which could certainly end up being his place on the next level.
Highlights
Kinnick Boelk
Kinnick Boelk
Much like his twin brother, Carver Boelk Carver Boelk 5’10” | 175 lbs | WR West Branch | 2023 IA , Kinnick Boelk helps the Bears all over the field. The coaches also deliver the ball to Kinnick Boelk in space, and he rips off big plays in the passing game and when rushing. He performs well at cornerback, in coverage and in run support, and that might be his ticket to college ball.
