Davin Chung out of Mendenhall is a prospect out of the 2024 class that has a decent frame and even a better nose for the football. Davin is one of many dependable players available off of that Mendenhall defense that is making a statement this year in the 4A. The most impressive part of Davin’s skill set I noticed while watching his film was his level of spatial awareness along with his ability to sift through the defense to make plays. Chung is a 6’1, 210 pound Junior that will surely get faster and stronger to be a threat on the next level. However, Davin has the instincts and football IQ to make up for where he lacks in pure athleticism. He plays the game with good leverage and is a sure tackler. Davin understands how to attack and shed blocks efficiently on a consistent basis. Last week, Davin totaled 17 tackles(9 solo) in Mendenhall’s impressive 48-14 win over the district opponent Newton County Tigers. This week the Tigers of Mendenhall face off against another district foe, the Quitman Panthers. I’m looking for Chung to roll off another impressive game for Mendenhall to propel them to their 7th straight win on the season. Davin Chung will do just that and more in due time, just watch.
Amarion Tyson Amarion Tyson 5'7" | 170 lbs | ATH Picayune Memorial | 2024 State MS | 2024 ATH | Picayune | 4.5 40 yd Dash
Last Contest – East Central (W 28-10) | 13 tackles (9 solo)
Next Contest – West Harrison (4-2)
Mr.Tyson is a talent out of Picayune who plays the game with a passion and fearlessness that pops off of his tape. The 5’7 165 pound linebacker is a natural defender, he has instincts, athleticism, and the competitive fervor that makes up the demeanor of all great defenders. His closing speed and ability to change direction to make plays is what stuck out to me when viewing his tape. Amarion is an intelligent football player, and he has the innate ability of reading defenses while subsequently putting himself in position to be able to make a play in the blink of an eye. DO NOT let this kids size fool you. His athleticism and speed make up for every inch and pound that the defender gives up to the opposition. Last week Amarion had 9 solo and 13 total tackles against East Central in Picayune’s 28-10 district win. This was yet another impressive outing from the Junior linebacker that helped the Maroon Tide get their 3rd district win. It is the type of performance that Picayune is becoming accustomed to seeing from him honestly. Amarion is a member of Picayune’s stout defense that has allowed only 52 points through 7 games this fall. Mr. Tyson is amass another impressive performance over West Harrison this Friday.
Tyshun Willis | 2025 DE | Velma Jackson | 13.5 Sacks in 7 Games
Last Contest – 11 total tackles (8 solo) 1 sack
Next Contest – Puckett (6-1)
Tyshun Willis is a 6’2 225 pound Defensive end out of Velma Jackson that is going to turn into a highly sought out prospect in the near future. Tyshun is an exceptional athlete with great bend and the ability to start and stop like a skilled player. He is effective as a run stopper and also in pass defense as an edge rusher. Willis is having a monster year this season in the sack department, and it is mainly due to the mismatch that he creates when facing most of his opponents. Bigger and heavier tackles look more lethargic against him, while smaller tackles appear to be inferior. He is only a Sophomore, so I see this kid getting bigger, faster, and stronger as time passes on. Tyshun and the Falcons are set to do battle with the 6-1 Puckett Wolves. This divisional game is the biggest one that this team has met this year. Willis will need to put on a show this week if not any other to help propel the falcons to a much needed divisional win.
