Overall, there were so many elite players last night, so let’s look at some of the best of the best.
Tray Hettick Tray Hettick 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Herreid/Selby | 2023 State – QB, Herreid/Selbey Area
Hettick was locked in for the last game of the regular season and he balled out in the show that he put out on the field. He was a textbook gunslinger who was able to maneuver in and around the pocket with his quick levels of agility and often link up with a player downfield to score for this team. His field vision was top notch and this mixed with his rocket arm that he showed last night, Hettick did not need many passes to get yards for his team and did everything for his team in the offensive output. His stat line shows that he was throwing lasers all game and often having them land downfield, he went 8-14 overall on the night while having 245 passing yards and 5 touchdowns overall. More often than not he was hitting his players down the field for some great passes, and consistently having his team get set up for some fantastic field position to allow him to take over the game. Hettick put an exclamation point on this night with his elite passing attack and was able to show his rocket arm, impressing me and other scouts alike.
Owen Quail Owen Quail RB Deuel | 2023 State – RB, Deuel
Quail was a rushing machine last night and he was not able to be stopped when he was in stride, and he showed us why being a powerful running back is key to most offenses. He had the ball in his hands quite a lot, and when he did he made sure to run over anyone who was in his way, Quail really showed his abilities as a power rusher this game by running over big LBs and fast DB in his way. It was impressive to see him do this and his stats in the box score surely backed this up with him having 35 rushes, 224 rushing yards, and 2 touchdowns on the night. This was nothing short of an all-out attack by Quail on the offensive side of the ball but he also helped out the offense by blocking for his QB and being a great extra blocker and decoy for his team that was able to open up other aspects of the offense. Quail was such a threat every time he was on the field he was the main focus, and that is what makes a good player, great.
Tristan Bisbee – DB, Brandon Valley
Bisbee was lockdown in his coverage of anyone that he was matching up and it was great to see him in action with his quick moves and ability to make plays on passes. Bisbee was able to stick to offensive players like glue and that was the best way to describe the style of play that he put out on the field, a glue guy who will be stingy in the tight coverage that he gives you. He was able to disrupt the flow of the offense and able to force bad passes to other targets while he was staying on the top guy. Bisbee’s defensive numbers were elite as a defensive back with him tallying 2 interceptions and 1 defensive touchdown, These numbers are showing that most defensive backs would love to have a in a season by Bisbee tallied them in a game, and it was surely impressive to see. Without Bisbee, the defense that he provided all night would have led to a very different kind of scenario where Brandon Valley would not have been as great as they were last night, and he was that glue guy who held the defensive together all night.
Hayden Groos Hayden Groos 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Sioux Falls O'Gorman | 2024 State SD – S, Sioux Falls O’Gorman
Groos has shot up all year on my list of players who are going to s star for years to come and I see that every time he plays defense with the serious skills that he has as a safety. Groos is more of a hybrid style of safety that can be a linebacker at times who can stack the box and also be an elite ball-hawking coverage safety, not quite a box safety, but more of a true defensive player. Groos can get anywhere on the field pretty much at any time and it shows with his speed, and mix with his strength, he is a threat to his defense which makes him so deadly whenever he is on the field. His stats on the night were quite impressed with him totaling two interceptions, 9 total tackles, and also having 3 pass breaks ups on the day. What is even more impressive to me about Groos is that his natural position is at QB and is playing this well with limited experience, I am excited to see what he can do as he continues to hone his craft and be great at Safety. Groos has had a year to remember and this was an exclamation point to round out a great year with the talent that he puts on the field.
