The State of Oregon has changed things this season, with separate two-tier 16 team brackets. So someone will actually be playing for 17th place. I always thought it was fun to root for that #22 seed, or whatever, in hopes they would make a run and win a few playoff games. Athletes want to compete and not play for a 2nd tier trophy so I find it unfortunate.
Have a look at a hypothetical 32 team bracket with Oregon & Washington teams seeded. While this would most likely never happen, it would be one of the more competitive years, with a solid group of 8 teams advancing to the quarterfinals.

QUARTERFINALS
#8 Bellevue, WA (7-2) 21
#1 Sheldon, OR (10-0) 31
The Wolverines are always good but this isn’t the (14-0) title team from a year ago. Sheldon potentially has one of their best teams in school history which speaks volumes considering the titles they have won.
#5 Jesuit, OR (9-1) 26
#4 Eastside Catholic, WA (10-0) 20
Eastside continually produces nationally ranked talent and is always in the mix come late November. That said as Jesuit is good enough to win it all in a typical year. 6-4 200-pound RB Payton Roth Payton Roth 6'4" | 200 lbs | RB Jesuit | 2023 State OR is going for 200 every week.
#7 Glacier Peak, WA (9-1) 20
#2 West Linn, OR (9-1) 42
Glacier went down to Cali Week 3, losing 16-14 to a very talented Rocklin HS (7-2) team. I think they could play with the Lions for a little while, with West Linn pulling away in the 2nd half.
#6 Central Catholic, OR (9-1) 26
#3 Yelm, WA (10-0) 28
This could go either way with the Rams continuingly proving me wrong. Returning conference POY Cru Newman Cru Newman 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Central Catholic | 2024 State OR is the real deal and a kid that just wins. That said as Yelm has been beyond dominant, beating their opponents by an average score of 57-7 (461-55) on the year.
SEMIFINALS
#5 Jesuit, OR (10-1) 29
#1 Sheldon, OR (11-0) 34
This could very well be a matchup we see in the Oregon 6A semis. The Crusaders have a legit line which has been dominant, but the Irish D is loaded with top talent and Oregon 6A POY favorite Teitum Tuioti Teitum Tuioti 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Sheldon | 2023 State OR , who is on a completely different level. QB Brock Thomas Brock Thomas 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Sheldon | 2023 State OR has thrown 30 TDs through 8 weeks as well, after accounting for 43 touchdowns last year (22 passing, 21 rushing).
#3 Yelm, WA (11-0) 22
#2 West Linn, OR (10-1) 31
Yelm beat Camas and Union by a combined score of 90-20 to start the year which was impressive, but other than that they really haven’t played anybody. West Linn has played one of the NW’s toughest schedules ever, which included the 42-6 dismantling of then #1 Lake Stevens.
NW TITLE GAME
#2 West Linn, OR (11-1) 29
#1 Sheldon, OR (12-0) 28
At first, I thought Sheldon might have gotten lucky, traveling to West Linn and getting that 35-31 win earlier in the year. Not so.. The Irish are the real deal and could very well do it again. I will take the Lions in a 1-point game, in what could be the first of many titles in the years ahead.
