AJ Green
AJ Green
Green was easily the best offensive player on the field Friday night. His elite burst allowed him to advance to the second level quickly and generate chunk plays between the tackles/ Green also displayed Excellent vision and seemed to get the most out of every touch. He did a great job of hitting gaps, bouncing runs to the outside, and finding lanes to run through. In the open field, he showed excellent speed and an ability to make guys miss once he has some steam behind him. Though he isn’t a household name, Green has surely caught some eyes with his performance against a formidable Hoover defense.
Kaleb Jackson
Kaleb Jackson
Jackson was a big-time playmaker for the Hoover defense and seemed to play his best at the biggest moments. With excellent closing speed, Jackson was effective as a pass rusher and generated crucial on the opposing QB. With a sack and a clutch hurry that resulted in an intentional grounding penalty – Jackson showed a knack for getting downhill and finishing plays in open-field situations. Lastly, Jackson Did a solid job of containing the opposing QB’s run yardage and flowed sideline to sideline.
Hayden McDonald
Hayden McDonald
McDonald was a force to be reckoned with in the interior and made multiple plays in the backfield Friday night. Along with solid strength and consistent leverage, he showed active hands when battling for position at the line of scrimmage. Mcdonald’s constant presence made the Thompson defense tough to run, and his ability to stay on the field showed great stamina for his size. As a sophomore in one of the biggest games of the year, Mcdonald showed flashes of brilliance and has the potential to be another D1 product from Thompson as he grows and gains more nuance in his pass rush.
Fegans was one of the more versatile players on the field and solidified the Thompson secondary. Showed quick feet and anticipation when jumping on quick game routes and reading RPOS. This constant disruption forced Hoover to rely on their run game- making the opposing offense one dimensional. He worked with fluidity in the slot and shadowed receivers but also lined up at the safety position and patrolled the field with speed and toughness. Fegans dynamic play throughout the secondary makes him one of the best DBs in the state and a threat offensive coordinators must account for.
Jordan Norman
Jordan Norman
Norman is a defensive end with length and sneaky athleticism. Though he doesn’t blow you away with any trait, he’s a jack of all trades who can contribute against the run and pass. He Used his length well to disrupt passing lanes and came away with a deflection and a crucial interception that helped seal the victory. In the run game he played with discipline, contained perimeter runs, and finished plays with fundamentally sound tackling.
