DB #3 Jay Avery Jay Avery 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Hoover | 2023 State AL (6-0 165) Senior – Avery was part of the Hoover Bucs defense that was part of a 9-0 shutout against Thompson Friday night. This was the first time Thompson has been shut out since 2016. Avery, who plays centerfield for the Buc’s defense, had two tackles, one pass broken up, and an interception in the end zone to wide away a Thompson scoring opportunity. Avery has excellent instincts in the secondary. The senior safety does a great job of making sure no one receiver gets past him on defense. Avery plays the ball very well and has great jumping ability. He is not afraid to come up and make a hit on a running back.
DL #4 Jordan Norman (6-4 240) Senior – Norman had a massive game on the defensive front for the Bucs. The senior defensive lineman had nine tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, one pass was broken up, and one interception. The senior DL picked off a pass in the flats and returned it 40-yards deep into Thompson territory. Norman is explosive in getting in the opposing backfields and finding the ball carrier for a tackle. Norman has everything you need in a great lineman: discipline, strength, ability, and endurance. Norman does a great job of holding his ground in the run game and does not get driven off the line. Norman’s quick first step can hurt an offensive lineman and get to the quarterback. He can play the run along with rushing the passer. He is a brilliant football player.
Thompson Warriors
QB #12 Trent Seaborn Trent Seaborn 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Thompson | 2027 State AL (5-10 159) Eighth Grader – Seaborn comes into the game during a difficult time against Hoover. The Bucs knew that Thompson needed some offense, so Seaborn moved the offense. Seaborn will be a superstar when he gets full reigns of the Warrior’s offense. In limited action, the eighth grader completed 10-of-16 passing for 117 yards against Hoover. Seaborn’s best pass was a deep ball to Bo Jones between two defensive backs. Seaborn has a great touch and knows he can make any pass on the field. He is a brilliant football player for his age and with limited experience at the varsity level. Seaborn does a great job keeping his eyes downfield and can throw the ball in the pocket or on the move.
Carver-Montgomery
QB Christian Johnson (6-0, 200) Senior – Johnson led his team to a Class 6A, Region 2 title on Thursday night. The senior QB completed 19-for 26 passing for 270 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win against Pike Road. Johnson has completed 126-of-192 passing for 2,427 yards and 34 touchdowns for the season. Johnson has been consistent with the passing game all season. Johnson has a big arm that is looking to throw the ball deep. He has a strong arm with a great touch on his passes. Johnson knows when to deliver the ball on routes and likes to stand in the pocket to make the big play for his team.
WR #4 Marquan Jamerson (5-9 160) Senior – Jamerson made big catches in the first half against Pike Road. Jamerson had six for 168 yards and three touchdowns in the win against Pike Road. On the season, the senior wide receiver has 56 receptions for 1,200 yards and 21 touchdowns. The 21 touchdowns is a Carver-Montgomery season record for touchdowns in a season. Jamerson has excellent hands and runs exceptional routes. He has breakaway speed with the ball. He has the impressive speed to get separation on a pass play. When the Wolverines need a play, they look to the Johnson and Jamerson combo. “Honestly, I’m proud of myself, but a praise to my quarterback Christian Johnson for getting me the ball,” said Carver WR Jamerson. “We’re number one in the playoffs and have home-field advantage, so this is great for us. I have seen our defense make big plays all season. They stepped up when we needed them to in the second half. They have done this all season.”
