Which defenders have been tackling machines so far this year?
Let’s take a look…
Tyler Scott Tyler Scott 6'2" | 180 lbs | DL Savannah Country Day | 2025 State GA – Savannah County Day
A versatile defender who can play linebacker or have his hand in the ground on the edge, Scott is a long, athletic defender who knows how to be productive. After an excellent freshman season in 2021, Scott has come on strong this fall as a sophomore, and half-way through the season, Scott is one of the state’s leading tacklers for all sophomores. The quick-reacting defender has made 74 total tackles so far this year, averaging over 10.5 tackles per game, and making him one of the more productive defenders in the Savannah area. He made at least 10 tackles in his first five games this season and has lived in the backfield, making an impressive 11.5 TFLs this year so far. He’s also done a tremendous job getting after the quarterback, making 6.5 sacks so far during his sophomore year. He’s an outstanding defender in Savannah to know about for the rest of his career.
Kain Brown – Ridgeland
It’s been a tough season so far for Ridgeland, but that’s not because of the play of their sophomore linebacker, Kain Brown. An instinctive middle linebacker who reacts quickly, he’s strong in the run game and has shown the ability to break down plays before they get going. He shoots gaps well and consistently puts himself in a position to make plays in the backfield. He may be a sophomore, but he’s played like an established veteran so far this season. The 5-foot-11 195-pounder from North Georgia has been reliable all season in the middle of the field, making just under 10 tackles a game. He’s made at least 10 tackles in four of his seven games this year, making 68 total stops on the season with three TFLs. He’s an under the radar linebacker deep in North Georgia to keep an eye on.
Connor Griffin – Cherokee Bluff
Another quick, instinctive middle linebacker, Griffin gets to the ball-carrier in a hurry and knows how to make a secure tackle. He’s a true football player that may not have ideal size, but he’s smart, reliable, and does his job every play. He’s another physical player that doesn’t miss a ton of tackles. He’s already one of the leaders on his Cherokee Bluff team and he’s making tackle after tackle every Friday night as a sophomore. Outside of the season opener against Adairsville where they gave up 51 points, Griffin’s defense hasn’t given up over 21 points to another opponent. Griffin has made 70 total tackles, making him one of the state’s tackle leaders in the 2025 class. He knows how to play the position and has been one of the more consistent and reliable defenders not only on the team, but in Hall County this fall.
Luke Mobbs – Jackson County
Another dependale linebacker that may not look like a D1 prospects physically, Mobbs is a consistent and reliable tackler who can rack up tackles with ease. He’s smart, fundamentally sound, and having an excellent sophomore season, quickly turning into one of the better young linebackers in the area. Mobbs, at 5-foot-8 180-pounds, has made 67 total tackles so far this season and 8 TFLs. He does a great job of sneaking into the backfield and stopping a play before it can really get going. His best game came early in the season against Dawson County where he made 13 total tackles. He’s also made 11 tackles against Mountain View, 9 tackles against Shiloh, and 9 more tackles against Central Gwinnett. He’s an impressive linebacker in Jefferson to know about for the next few seasons.
