With district titles and playoff spots still up for grabs, you can expect the competition to be fierce from the Panhandle to south Florida and many communities in between.
Each and every week during the football season, we bring you 10 games to keep an eye on for Friday night. Here are the games that you just may want to attend this coming week:
Eau Gallie (7-1) at No. 18 Rockledge (7-1). With each team losing games that many felt they would win, this is still a major Space Coast contest with two teams who have long been in the shadow of Cocoa. Both programs are stacked with talent and each will make the state playoffs with great expectations.
Fort Lauderdale Dillard (5-3) at Tallahassee Lincoln (5-3). The assignment for the Panthers is simple. Travel over 400 miles to play a solid team at home. While the Trojans have pretty much lived up to pre-season expectations, the Panthers have fallen way short of the goals that they set, but that can be remedied over the next two weeks – with unbeaten rival Blanche Ely coming up next week. Losing to the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the state is something that NOBODY can close to claiming.
Fort Meade (6-2) at Frostproof (7-1). If you go back decades, you will see this game – between two programs that have more than enjoyed their success throughout the years, but it’s been a while since a game has meant as much as this one does. Talent and tremendous coaching on both sides of the ball makes this a must-see Polk County contest!
Jacksonville Andrew Jackson (7-1) at Jacksonville Raines (6-1). While Trinity Christian has stolen the Duval County spotlight, here are two very impressive programs who will get a spotlight that is deserved this week. Solid talent and superior coaching have made this game one to check out in North Florida.
No. 22 Lake Wales (8-0) at Auburndale (5-2). There is no getting around the fact that the Highlanders have been one of the biggest stories this season in the Sunshine State. Even with Lakeland sitting to the northwest, here is a team stacked with talent, tremendous coaching and an opportunity to make some serious noise this season, The Bloodhounds believe that they are up for the challenge that sits in front of them. They have played a challenging schedule, but haven’t competed with anyone like Lake Wales, and it will take a major effort at home.
Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (3-4) at Vero Beach (8-1). For the past two years, the Titans have stolen the spotlight from the Indians, who have owned the Treasure Coast for decades. Last year, Treasure Coast dominated the second half to win. They year before, it came down to the final play. A loss to Martin County last week has Vero Beach in a bad mood. The Titans have played a monster schedule and will be ready.
No. 15 Sanford Seminole (7-1) at Lake Mary (5-2). Even though these two Seminole County powers are playing at a different level right now, it means little in this rivalry. Both teams have talent, are well coached and will certainly put on a show. A win by the Rams can make their season. The Seminoles have much bigger plans than this game.
No. 23 Starke Bradford County (8-0) at Palatka (7-1). On the surface, this is a matchup that will be more than worth watching, but before you get your popcorn and cold drinks ready, understand that the Tornadoes have been the most dominating team in the state and among the best nationally. The Panthers can score, but against a team that has given up one touchdown and currently has not let up a point in 27 quarters, it will be an uphill climb. Two tremendous teams will entertain.
No. 9 Tampa Bay Tech (7-2) at Seffner Armwood (5-3). With one forfeit and a loss on the field last week against defending state champion Tampa Jesuit, the Titans are hungry to get back on track and concentrate on getting back to the state finals. But to accomplish that it will have to be done on the road against a program that is capable of winning against anyone when they come to play. This is a defining matchup for both teams and should easily be the most entertaining on this Friday night.
West Palm Beach The King’s Academy (7-1) at Riviera Beach Inlet Grove (6-1). One of these beneath the radar games where two very impressive schools will clash with plenty on the line. Both are headed to the state playoffs, but each believes that win here could give the winning team plenty of confidence moving forward. While it may not be a marquee game, it is one that will have many fans checking this Palm Beach County matchup out.
