Continue ReadingWestern Pennsylvania is a region that’s rich with football talent yearly. The transfer portal has altered recruiting for high school prospects in terms of visibility. Due to the abundance of eligible recruits, some high school athletes have become recruiting collateral damage. I’m going to be highlighting some of the underrated or unheralded prospects around western pa in the 2023 & 2024 classes. These recruits spotlighted are either uncommitted or haven’t been offered altogether in a lot of cases. These gems will be introduced in a series of articles to adequately spotlight their abilities.
Boyd’s a D1 prospect that already has 4 offers from FCS Marist, Division 2 Clarion, Walsh & Mercyhurst. The senior’s catch radius is wide-ranging, plus he has strong hands. He’s nimble & knows how to use his 6’2 frame to Moss DBs. Zach’s 4.5 40 yd dash allows him to be a dangerous returner. The EF standout is averaging 32.9 yds per catch presently. He’s capable of stretching the defense out on deep routes due to his speed. This season, Boyd has 30 catches for 988 yds & 18 TDs. At the very least Zach should have more scholarship opportunities.
Highlights
Deshields is a D1 athlete with the size to be an FBS possession WR. He’s a dual sport star that currently has a basketball offer from Pitt. Keondre does have a lone FCS football scholarship from the St. Francis Red Flash. Deshields could improve on his top-end speed but his overall agility is still elite. KD‘s 6’3 frame mixed with his ball skills equals deep ball completions. His basketball skills translate well to WR in the Redzone on 50/50 passes. He’s agile & nimble releasing versus press man. Keondre hasn’t had the luxury of playing with a high-volume passing, proficient, pro-style quarterback. I believe Deshields’s potential in a successful spread offense would be through the roof.
Morsillo is getting D1 interest and recently picked up his first offer from D2 Lock Haven. The senior is a dual-threat Quarterback with a quick release. Morsillo would be ideal in a zone-read RPO-style offense in college. Keyshawn has good QB mechanics on play-action fakes and keeps his eyes downfield. The competitive QB knows how to get the ball to his targets quickly. He isn’t a run-first guy, but Key is capable of gnashing defenses scrambling. Morsillo’s escapability can kill teams blitzing & playing man too much on the backend. The 23′ prospect gets the ball out with good anticipation & placement. He throws great on rollouts and possesses the ability to improv on broken plays. KM has a strong arm & throws a good deep ball. The 6’3 senior signal-caller has led Westinghouse to an undefeated record in 2022.
Skyler Silver
Skyler Silver
Skyler is being recruited by D2 schools, but his ceiling is on the FCS level. He’s a vicious down-blocker that finishes defensive linemen to the turf. Silver appears to be flexible in his stance, which means he’s able to be swift kick-sliding. He‘s agile and capable of blocking athletic LBs. He has good footwork pass protecting & is stout when he anchors down pass setting. Silver is athletic enough to play interchangeably along the offensive line.
Trey’s a beast with the ball in hand for the Tigers. The senior is competitive & shows his ability to make people miss on film. Singleton is good at releasing off-the-line vs press man technique. Trey’s a playmaker that runs crisp routes that cause separation. The 23′ prospect has strong hands making grabs. Singleton displays a lot of wiggle & agility getting in and out of his breaks. Trey possesses 4.6 speed which allows him to break away when he gets out in the open. The Beaver Falls senior is capable of being a productive specialist in college.
