I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, ONLY players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
Maddox Hodge
Maddox Hodge
Maddox has had a solid junior year so far this year. Week 3 for him was another good performance. He reads the field well, being able to quickly get to the ball carrier. He hits hard and his technique is near perfect. He forced a fumble on the night as well as rising above the wide receiver for the interception. He contributes on the offense side as a wide receiver himself as well, getting many catches this year so far.
Antone is a top defensive back in the entire 2024 class and for very good reason. Antone is a phenomenal tackler. He hits his opponents in the perfect spot, being able to wrap them up with ease. He gets to the ball carrier quick, showing off his impressive speed. His patience is what really impresses me, he’s hesitant in the secondary waiting for the perfect moment to wrap up the ball carrier. He’s only getting better as his junior year progresses and his senior year starts next year.
Darnell is one of the most intriguing players in the 2024 class. He plays with urgency, always being involved with tackles. He enjoys contact, I can tell that by watching film. He has great size and likely isn’t done growing just yet. He’s excellent in pass coverage, reading the quarterback very well and being able to stay with the wide receivers too.
Highlights
Josiah Goode
Josiah Goode
Puyallup HS has had a great start to the year, getting some very big wins early. Week 3 against South Kitsap, they got the job done easily. The defense allowed just 10 points all game. Josiah has great speed on the outside and can keep up with just about anyone on the other side of the ball. His pursuit to the ball is outstanding, but he his adjustment when the ball is mid air is extremely impressive to me. He turns while running full speed to deflect the ball with ease and quarterbacks should be worried about throwing his way.
**Mario now attends Garfield HS**
With Mario transferring to a bigger Metro league school, he’s been getting on a lot more peoples radars. Garfield’s defense has yet to allow more than 20 points in a game, with Lake Stevens being the only time a team scored more than 10 points. Murphy is strong for his size and surprises a lot of people with the amount of power he does have. He’s extremely fast, faster than most of the wide receivers he faces. He’s only going to keep improving while being on the Garfield team.
