I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, ONLY players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
Aizik Rothwell
Aizik Rothwell
Aizik wasn’t the starting quarterback going into the season, but RA Long did have a quarterback competition. This was Rothwell’s first start at QB during any level of football since middle school, and boy did he impress. He showed natural abilities to sling the rock down the field. He placed balls in the perfect spot for his receivers, making their job easier. He completed 21 of 33 passes going for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns in the air. He made the right decisions all night long, almost as if he had been playing quarterback ever since middle school. I’m intrigued to see how Aizik does the rest of the season.
Nolan Wright
Nolan Wright
I watched Nolan make his first career start in high school during his week 1 game against Mount Baker HS. He looked very solid, but it was apparent he needed to settle in and make his throws, if he does that consistently, he’ll be a top quarterback in the NWC by the end of the season. Week 2 against Blaine HS, Nolan went a perfect 8 for 8 through the air with 212 yards passing and an incredible 4 touchdowns. Everything was clicking for Sehome last week, they have a big game week 3 against Sedro-Wooley and will be another big test for freshman quarterback Wright.
Kole Hunsaker
Kole Hunsaker
Kole got the job done in every single aspect of the offense. He is the starting quarterback, obviously, but he can do a lot more than just throw the football. Kole went 12 of 16 with 136 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. On the ground, Kole ran the ball 6 times for 24 yards and a rushing touchdown. Kole wasn’t done contributing in different ways there, he was able to reel in a catch of his own for 30 yards and brought it to the house for a receiving touchdown. To recap that, Kole had 4 touchdowns on offense during his week 2 game, throwing for 2, running for 1, and catching 1 of his own. Lakeside has started off the year strong and is a team to watch in the 1A class.
Keshawn Lewis
Keshawn Lewis
Keshawn had a great week 2 game for Foss HS. The senior raked up 235 yards passing on the night to go along with 5 passing touchdowns and 1 interception, all while going a very accurate 20/24. Lewis is confident in the pocket, being able to let his receivers complete their route before throwing the ball. His placement was spot on all night long, hitting his targets while they are in stride to the end-zone. When the pocket does collapse, Lewis is a phenomenal athlete and can avoid defenders using his feet, dragging out the play allowing for his receivers to get open. Lewis is a name to watch this year as well.
Jeremiah Wright
Jeremiah Wright
Lynden Christian is another team who also had a quarterback competition during the off-season to see who would be the leader of the offense. Junior Jeremiah Wright won the job and hasn’t disappointed at all this season. During their big week 2 game against 3a school Archbishop-Murphy, Wright completed 9/16 passes for 171 yards. He also carried the ball 10 times for a team high 101 yards. He controls the offense very well, being dangerous through the air or on the ground with his feet. I put ATH next to Jeremiah because he is a FORCE on the defensive side lining up at DE/OLB. He also raked up 7 tackles on defense, including an incredible 3 sacks. He contributes on both sides of the ball weekly, as the season goes on people will know why he is one of the best athletes in the entire state, regardless of sport.
