There are MANY other defensive backs who could be put on this list. I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, ONLY players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
Sunny Nguyen
Sunny Nguyen
Sunny had an amazing game week 2 against Eastmont HS. He was lock down all night, not allowing a single pass to be completed on his side of the field. He had 5 tackles, broke up 3 passes, and had 2 interceptions on the night, One of the interceptions he had was the biggest of his year so far, clinching the win for Timberline by going up and grabbing a pass in the end-zone forcing a turnover. He reads the ball and quarterback well, jumping the receivers route many times. Sunny will be fun to watch over the years.
Nick Watt
Nick Watt
When I watch Nick’s film, I can tell he’s a natural leader and athlete. He was all over the place during Squalicum’s week 2 game against Fife HS. Watt finished with 11.5 tackles, 2 of those going for loss. He closes in on the ball carrier very well, showing off his speed while doing so. Nick’s tackling form is near perfect, which is why many opposing players don’t get by him. He’s had a fantastic start to his senior year and will only get better as the year goes on.
De’aruis Hawkins
De’aruis Hawkins
De’arius is another class of 2025 defensive back who had a great game during week 2. He reads the quarterback really well, being able to know if it’s run or pass quickly. His open field tackling was spot on, as he was able to wrap up quickly when contact is made. Playing mostly in the nickel slot all night, he did a good job at watching the quarterbacks eyes. He’s going to be a player I have my eyes on more as the season goes along.
Landon Schafer
Landon Schafer
Landon is a fun player to watch on the field. As many of the Anacortes players do, Landon plays with a TON of energy on the field. This young Seahawk group really feeds off of each other, and that’s shown when you watch film of their players. Against Port Angeles in week 2, Schafer did a great job at keeping the guy he was guarding right in front of him. He was able to use his speed to quickly jump the routes and break up passes. His open field tackling is very good for a defensive back. I’m excited to watch this class of 2024 defensive back continue his journey.
TJ is already well known across the state of Washington for his shut down defense. The senior is still showing people why he’s a top 10 defensive back in the state. The Colorado State commit has yet to allow a pass, literally shutting down an entire half of the field. Week 2 against Lincoln HS was another dominant performance by the senior. His game speaks for itself on the defensive side of the ball but, TJ has been tearing it up on the offensive side too. He reeled in 2 touchdowns week 2 as well. He’s always someone to watch, weekly.
