Jack Petrone
No tape to properly evaluate Jack Petrone’s opening night against McMahon, yet I still got wind of his solid performance on the ground that helped Glastonbury earn their first win of the season. According to reports, Petrone ran for 180+ yards, while adding a score to his efforts. I’ll be on the lookout for tape to solidify this young man’s case to make our rankings at the end of the year. His junior tape sure is deserving.
Roehn Maldonado
Roehn Maldonado
I came away impressed with Roehn Maldonado’s initial Fall tape, an unranked CT junior linebacker out of Holy Cross HS. This kid looks the part on tape, off of it too, standing at 6’2 and weighing in at just under 230 pounds. Maldonado is far from a sloppy 230 might I add. Good frame, and good motor too. The early tape shows a linebacker well seasoned in shooting gaps and bringing down ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage. He will more than likely earn a spot as we continue to move forward this Fall.
Tyshaun Davender
Tyshaun Davender
Consider me invested in this senior out of Hamden HS. Tyshaun Davender put forth a valiant effort this past weekend, showing off his value to the program at every facet of the game. First play of his Norwalk tape, Davender screams down the field for a special teams tackle to set the tone. The crowd more than likely loved Davender’s efforts on the ground, churning up yards and first downs, while two carries led to two scores for Hamden. Where I personally like Davender was at linebacker. This kid can run east and west with many ball carriers. His ability to move and run laterally at his linebacker spot leads me to believe he’d be a fabulous combine tester.
Rowan Johnston
Rowan Johnston
Just a casual seven-score night from an unranked prospect. We can all agree this is something you don’t see every week. Yet we saw it in Connecticut this past weekend. The Trumbull junior put forth a lengthy first tape, one that not only showcased all of his scores but plenty of electric open-field plays as well. I hardly see four-minute tapes this early into the year, Johnston’s night was that good. Johnston displayed he’s a complete weapon on offense, doing damage both between and around the tackles in the run game while acting as a real receiving threat out of the backfield. What’s crazy is, I don’t see why Johnston can’t perform this way each weekend, he’s that talented.
michael trovarelli
michael trovarelli
Those at Bunnell might be used to this kind of production out of Michael Trovarelli. I however am not. Trovarelli’s initial senior tape is two and a half minutes’ worth of dominance at running back. Trovarelli puts forth a nice blend of lateral agility and tough north and south running that gives you the sense that this kid could be used on every down. He displayed the ability to catch passes out of the backfield, taking two receptions in for scores. Five scores on this tape and his first play is a monstrous pass protection block that flattens a blitzer. Safe to say this kid can do it all.
Evan Bergeron
Evan Bergeron
Evan Bergeron’s Immaculate HS tape is privated, so a proper evaluation of his game will have to come at a later time. Reports say this kid went off on the defensive side of the football. Bergeron registered five total tackles, two of which were drops behind the line of scrimmage. Bergeron also recorded an interception, two PBU’s, one sack, as well as a fumble recovery. Proved to be a busy night for the Brookfield senior. I hope to see some of his tapes at some point this Fall.
Jayden Leroy Jayden Leroy 6’0″ | 160 lbs | ATH Danbury | 2024 State New E is a 6’1 corner who put on some serious run-stopping reps in his tape against Harding. Leroy came away with two interceptions in this contest, yet his ability to read the flat and come downhill to the football after disengaging with his matchup was fun to watch. Collegiate coaching staffs are enamored with defensive backs over 6 feet tall. Especially ones willing to get dirty in the run game. Leroy might fit the mold. Excited to get him ranked in the future.
Anthony Butler Anthony Butler 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Danbury | 2025 New E
Anthony Butler Anthony Butler 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Danbury | 2025 New E
Teammate of Jayden Flory, Anthony Butler Anthony Butler 5’10” | 185 lbs | RB Danbury | 2025 New E matched Flory’s defensive production with production of his own on offense. The pair could be quite the duo for the Danbury coaching staff. Butler accounted for more than 150 yards on the ground while adding three scores to boot. Butler’s catching my eye considering he’s an underclassman putting up numbers like this. No film to properly evaluate yet. Excited to see more.
Jermaine Hatchett Jr.
Jermaine Hatchett Jr.
There are some studs on this list, we legitimately might be saving the best for last with St. Joseph’s Jermaine Hatchett Jr. An underclassmen linebacker that was pretty much unblockable in his matchup against Darien HS. Strictly from a prospect perspective, I’d be willing to place this kid high on our rankings based on this early tape. Twitchy, active feet that let him bounce laterally with ease. Real instincts, he often cut off ball carriers that attempted to bounce runs outside. Time after time, Darien continued to run this kid’s way. Rep after rep, Hatchett Jr. proved to be too quick to properly block. This kid is quickly becoming one of my favorite underclassmen in the state of Connecticut.
