Who are some breakout 2024 quarterbacks to know?
Leet’s take a look…
Baxter Wright – Gainesville
The Red Elephants are off to a fast 4-0 start to the season and junior quarterback Baxter Wright is a big reason why. The 6-foot-2 165-pounder has played better and better as the season has moved along and coming off a terrific game in week four, leading Gainesville to a big win over Clarke Central. Wright was an impressive 15/24 for 315 yards and five touchdowns in the big win, showing everyone that he can win games with his arm. e’s been extremely accurate this season, completing 71% of his passes through the first four games of the season. He also does a great job of taking care of the football, throwing 9 touchdowns to just two INTs this year. Look for his numbers to increase as he continues to develop throughout his junior season.
Jaiden Jenkins – St. Francis
Don’t let the size fool you, the Alpharetta native out of St. Francis may be on the smaller side physically, but he’s an impressive quarterback with a strong arm. He’s fundamentally sound, throws with zip, and knows exactly what he’s supposed to do with the ball. He’s coming off a big win over the weekend over Fellowship, throwing the game-winning touchdown with :45 seconds left on the clock. He throws with timing, can out touch on the ball when he needs to do, and has great ball placement. He can excellent during the off-season and has turned into one of the top quarterbacks in the Milton/Alpharetta area. He’s off to a strong junior season for St. Francis and has them bound for a big 2022 season.
Christopher Martin Christopher Martin 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Tift County | 2024 State GA – Lee County
One of the top dual-threat QBs in South Georgia, Martin has lead a strong Lee County program to a fast 3-1 start and has shown D1 potential through the first quarter of the season. The 6-foot-1 185-pounder is a leader, has a strong arm, and knows how to take off for a big gain. He gets the ball out quickly, delivers a tight spiral, and takes care of the football. He’s a good runner with burst, and if there’s room to run, he knows how to take off. However, he’s there to throw first, and he loves to make big throws down the field. He’s composed in the pocket, shows poise under pressure, and throws a catchable ball to his receivers. His best football is still ahead of him, and if he continues to learns and develop, he could lead the Trojans to a deep playoff run later this year. Expect his stock to continue rising over the next few months.
Sire Hardaway – Douglas County
One of the leading passers across the state in the 2024 class, Hardaway has been throwing the ball all over defenses through his first three games. The 5-foot-11 160-pounder plays bigger than his size and has Douglas County off to a 2-1 record to start the season. He has a big arm and loves to test defenses down the field, but he also knows how to take off with a big run when things break down. He has the skillset that fits the RPO style of offense and has been extremely productive through his first three games. Hardaway started the season with a 292-yard 4-touchdown performance in a week one win over Lithia Springs, and followed that up with a 410-yard performance against Mays in game two. In week three, Hardaway showed his dual-threat ability, throwing for 300 yards and rushing for over 90 yards and two touchdowns in a tough loss to McEachern. He’s an under the radar QB now, but if he keeps throwing the ball the way he has to start the 2022 season, his stock will take off sooner than later.
