Continue ReadingThis class is full of studs ready to make a name for themselves. Some will be playing junior varsity still, but some will step up to the plate and play big boy varsity ball. It is their time to show off the skills they have. Here are some guys that have been impressive this summer. I expect them to have a big year.
Bennett Payton, Jr, Noxubee Co, LB
I wasn’t aware of this young man until his last game. Their defensive coordinator sent me his film and I like what I saw. Bennett is going to be a big name for the Tiger defense throughout these next four years. He has a lot of potential and has some nice size to go along with that potential. Payton is a sure tackling defender. He doesn’t do a lot of arm tackling. He likes to get his shoulder pads on players and wrap them up. He isn’t just out there trying to lay guys out. You can tell that he plans to bring a load when he tackles every time. I would like to see him be a more downhill player. I would also like to see him make his reads faster. All those things will come with more experience.
Sharroid Whitehead, QB, Ocean Springs
Mr Whitehead is a freshman that runs a 4.47 40 and a 10.67 100m. He is one of the fastest kids in his class. He will be a big time dual threat QB. This kid runs the bootleg play to perfection. He holds out his fakes and he keeps his head swivel looking for open receivers. He isn’t starting in varsity, but this is a kid I know is going to be getting some playing time with varsity next year. He isn’t just all legs. I’ve seen a few plays on his film where he is making some passes. He needs some more mechanical work, but let’s not forget this is a story on 2026 guys. They all will have a lot of work to do.
KJ Cork
KJ Cork is a freshman that is taking on the role of being the starting QB for Choctaw Co. KJ has a few touchdown passes on the season. He has a big time target at receiver that he can get that ball to. That helps out with him relaxing some on the field. He can use his legs to get out of trouble. KJ turns into a RB when he takes off with the football. KJ needs some work on his passing game. He needs to make sure that he is getting the ball out on time and lead his receivers more. The more he works out his passing game the more we will see a mature QB. He can also play receiver or DB.
Cameron Skeen, OL, Louisville
Cameron Skeen has been very impressive this season. This young man understands how to play his position at such a young age. It’s not very often you see freshman starting at Louisville. It is very unfamiliar to see freshmen starting at the center position at Louisville. Skeen plays the position with a lot of intelligence. He already understands different blitz packages thrown at him. I would love to see him playing at the next level. I think he will grow to around 6-1 or 6-2. His IQ of the game will take him a long way. Here is a fun fact for you. The first time I saw him at a camp he had tennis shoes on and was holding his own against upperclassmen. Keep up with this guy.
