For my first taste of high school football action in Missouri, I chose to attend a game between Kirkwood and Pattonville this past Thursday night. The game started off very close but Kirkwood was able to take control in the second half on their way to a 42-14 victory. While there was a lot of great talent on both sides, here are the players that stood out to me in this game.
If I had to choose a Player of the Game in this one, it would definitely be Kirkwood running back, Deion Brown Deion Brown 5’8″ | 170 lbs | RB Kirkwood | 2023 State MO . Brown put on a show on Thursday night, rushing for 143 yards and two touchdowns. He showed very impressive vision and once he found the running lane, he came downhill with a sense of urgency. Once Brown hit the second level, he was a nightmare to try to tackle as he had the burst to run away from a defense, elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field, and also showed an impressive stiff arm. Brown also showed reliability in the passing game as he was on the receiving end of a touchdown through the air as well. Deion is committed to Eastern Michigan and I expect him to find a key role in their offense.

Another offensive weapon that impressed me for Kirkwood was senior wide receiver Tyler Macon Tyler Macon 5’11” | 175 lbs | WR Kirkwood | 2023 State MO . While he is known best as a baseball prospect, Macon proved himself on the football field on Thursday, catching seven passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Macon showed off very reliable hands, no matter what type of coverage was around him. He was the go to short yardage threat for Kirkwood and used his speed and elusiveness to make big plays after the catch. His speed also helped him to create separation and pose as a serious threat in the deep passing game. Kirkwood also used him as a ball carrier on jet sweeps and he had some impressive returns on special teams as well. Macon is committed to play baseball at Memphis but has the skill set to play football at the next level if he were to ever change his mind.
Highlights
I also came away from this game very impressed with the young man under center for Kirkwood, Omar Hopkins Omar Hopkins 6’1″ | 160 lbs | QB Kirkwood | 2023 State MO . Omar finished the game completing 18/27 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. He showed impressive zip and accuracy in the short and intermediate passing game while also showing off a strong arm with a solid amount of touch in the deep game. Hopkins also showed the ability to escape pressure and make throws on the run. While he impressed as a passer, he also showed very impressive dual threat ability, rushing for 59 yards and a touchdown. When he chose to tuck the ball and run, he showed the speed to run away from a defense and elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. Omar doesn’t currently hold any official offers but he should have some come soon as he has been receiving college interest and has the skill set to play at the next level.
Kameron Richardson Kameron Richardson 6’3″ | 165 lbs | WR Kirkwood | 2023 MO is a player that impressed me on both sides of the ball for Kirkwood on Thursday. On offense, Richardson lined up on the outside at receiver and showed great route running ability. He used smooth cuts in his routes to create separation and showed the speed to run by defenders in the deep passing game, as he was on the receiving end of a nice deep ball touchdown from Hopkins. After the catch, he used his speed and elusiveness to pick up extra yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Richardson played corner and impressed me the most against the run. He did a great job of reading the play and coming downhill in a hurry to provide run support. Kameron currently holds offers from Central Missouri, Eastern Illinois, Fort Hays State, and Indiana State and I expect more to come as he has the potential to be a special player at the next level.
Highlights
Carson Lindquist
Carson Lindquist
Carson Lindquist is an underclassmen that jumped onto my radar on Thursday. He lined up at inside linebacker and made plays all over the field. Lindquist showed the ability to read his keys and come downhill quickly to fill his gap against the run. He showed that he is a very physical tackler that does a great job of securing the tackle and running his feet on contact. Carson was also very dangerous as a pass rusher. He showed the ability to blitz up the middle and come off the edge to put pressure on the quarterback, finishing the game with two sacks. Carson is a player that I see bringing in a ton of college interest over the next few seasons if he continues to develop.
Andrew Kollitz
Andrew Kollitz
Andrew Kollitz is another player that jumped onto my radar Thursday. At 6’2″, 270 pounds, he has decent size at offensive tackle and uses it to his advantage. Kollitz impressed me the most in the run game as he exploded out of his stance and created movement off the line of scrimmage. He also did a great job of getting to the second level and keeping his head on a swivel to find work. In the passing game, he showed solid footwork and the ability to protect his inside gap and mirror pass rushers. Andrew doesn’t currently hold any offers but should be on the radars of college coaches as he has the skill set to play somewhere at the next level.
Terrell Porter Terrell Porter 6’0″ | 215 lbs | LB Pattonville | 2024 State MO was one of the best players on the field from either team on Thursday. He was the true leader of the defense at inside linebacker. Terrell did a great job of reading his keys and coming downhill in quickly to fill his gap against the run. He also took great angles to flow to the ball to put himself in position to make tackles when the play was run away from him. Once he got to the ball, he was a very reliable tackler in the open field. Porter also showed dependability against the pass, using his speed to open up and run with receivers out of the slot in man coverage. While he doesn’t currently hold any offers, they should come quickly over the next two seasons as Porter has the skill set to be a very good linebacker at the next level.
DeAndre Rush Jr
DeAndre Rush Jr
DeAndre Rush was the player that stood out to me the most for Pattonville on the offensive side of the ball. He lined up at receiver and used his quickness to create separation in his routes in the short passing game, as he was on the receiving end of an early touchdown on Thursday. Rush also showed the ability to make catches in traffic through contact as he made a very impressive catch between two defenders on a deep ball in the second half. After the catch, Rush was able to use his speed and elusiveness to pick up extra yards. Rush also had some impressive returns on special teams and played defensive back. While he doesn’t hold any offers currently, he is a player to keep an eye on over the next two seasons.
While he didn’t get the result he wanted on the scoreboard, Pattonville quarterback Byron McNair Byron McNair 5’10” | 170 lbs | QB Pattonville | 2023 MO showed some promise on Thursday. McNair was under a ton of pressure most of the night from Kirkwood’s defense and showed the ability to escape pressure and create something out of nothing. He uses his speed and elusiveness as a ball carrier to pick up positive yards when nothing was there in the passing game. As a passer, he showed the ability to make throws on the run, solid short/intermediate accuracy, and a strong arm in the deep passing game. Byron doesn’t currently hold any offers but has the skill set to play somewhere at the next level.
Lawrence Jackson
Lawrence Jackson
Another player that stood out to me for Pattonville on offense was junior running back, Lawrence Jackson. Jackson is a physical runner that bursts through the hole and keeps his feet churning through contact. He often takes multiple defenders to bring down as he has the ability to run through tackles. While he is more of a power back, he also showed the burst once he hit the second level to run away from the defense. Jackson finished the game with one touchdown but had multiple impressive long runs. Lawrence doesn’t currently hold any offers but is should be a player to watch over the next two seasons.
