What a night in the 205 for these two schools. Huffman High School takes on 7A Hewitt-Trussville High School in the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Huffman High School has been struggling, with a 0-5 record entering this game. Trussville comes into this game with a chip on their shoulder, sporting a 3-2 record and the books. Hewitt Trussville High School has faced some very challenging teams leading up to this game by barely losing to both Central Phenix City High School and Hoover High School, which are some of the best teams in class 7A. Even though Huffman High School is not having a great season, it still doesn’t match the fact that this team has some very talented athletes as well as the Hewitt Trussville high school football program as well. So let’s dive in on today’s Thursday night lights and see some of my top athletes from this game.
Let’s talk about Peyton Floyd Peyton Floyd 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Hewitt-Trussvile | 2024 State AL . Peyton has completed 13 passes out of 14 attempts for 169 yards, making his completion rate 86.7%, which is amazing for this kind of quarterback. Mr. Floyd also had five total touchdowns with zero interceptions throughout the entire game versus the Huffman High School Vikings. Peyton Floyd Peyton Floyd 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Hewitt-Trussvile | 2024 State AL was a dominating quarterback in this matchup. He was able to maneuver around the pocket and create open plays for any of his receivers. Peyton also played extremely well when under pressure. The way this quarterback plays his game is by tapping into a different groove to not only make the passing game work but also the run game work as well. Peyton is an elite quarterback with a lot of potential, and from the looks of this game, he can potentially lead this team to the playoffs as well as a championship run , if not this season, then definitely in the future.
Jamarion Ezell
Although the school board did not show a good ending to this football game, I feel that this kid, Jamarion Ezell, was all over the field. Israel is a senior leader for the Vikings who is a valuable asset for this team. Jamarion has recorded a total of eight tackles during the matchup versus the Hewitt Trussville Huskies, but not only did he have a total of eight tackles, he also had a tremendous number of eight tackles that were solo tackles. Ezell’s quickness and pursuit from out of the backfield helped him get into the backfield of the Huskies’ offense. This has allowed Ezell to be in on just about every defensive play on the field. I personally feel that Ezell is an underrated player who really showed out for his team when it mattered the most.
Jadon Loving
Jadon Loving was another key part of the Huskies’ offense versus Huffman High School. Loving has demonstrated very quick hands as well as quick feet getting off of the ball to create open lanes for quarterback Peyton Floyd Peyton Floyd 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Hewitt-Trussvile | 2024 State AL to throw. The way he was catching passes in traffic as a receiver was extremely impressive. Jadon went for 4 receptions for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns, averaging 18.3 yards per catch. This class of 2024 athlete will stand out in front of the whole state as a top receiver in his senior year.
What is more to say about Rickey? This kid continues to impress me each and every year. Watching this guy grow from the 2021 through 2022 football season till now, mid-season of 2023, he has developed so well as a tremendous defender for the Hewitt Trussville Defense. This kid did not allow any passes to come his way during the matchup versus the Huffman Vikings. This guy has a tremendous football IQ when it comes to running, passing, and even screen plays run by the offense. Watching Gibson makes me think of a future first-round pick and a career in the NFL. This kid continues to lead his team in a positive way on and off the field, and it shows every game day under the lights.
