Troy featured their own big-time D1 recruit in Missouri DE commit Jakhai Lang. Here is a look at the top prospects and performers from that match-up that Troy won 42-40.
TROY BUCHANAN
Jahkai Lang | 2023 | 6’4″ 245 | DE |
The Mizzou commit was impressive on the night both at his defensive end position as well as playing offensive tackle on offense. Jahkai used his speed and quickness to to rack up 9 tackles and a sack. He has great get off on the snap and has a high motor and vision to sniff out both run and pass plays. Does a good job fighting off and shedding blocks and stopping plays before they develop or running down opponents. Very active and plays to the whistle. He’s a force that opposing offense need to plan for and pay close attention to on how to block.
Nick Bova | 2023 | 6’0″ 190 | S |
Nick was a huge factor for the Trojans defensively, offensively and on special teams. Besides having a whopping 18 tackles from his safety position, where he covers sideline-to-sideline both against the pass and run, he scored a rushing touchdown and had a 72-yard punt return that was a difference in the final outcome. Just a real physical player and good athlete with deceptive speed who deserve more attention from D1 schools in my opinion. Also a standout wrestler for Troy Buchanan.
Charos Sutton | 2023 | 5’10” 180 | QB |
This talented QB made plays every time his team needed it. It seemed like Hannibal was about to take control and Sutton used his arm and legs to pick up the downs needed and advance his team to a score in response to a Pirates score. A real leader on the field along with being a playmaker. Teammates look up to him and follow his direction well. Makes good reads on rollout options. Is athletic and has good speed when he pulls the ball down to run. Also has great touch on his deep passes. Is smooth in the pocket and doesn’t rush things. Could play QB on the next level if given the opportunity. Could also play RB, WR or DB. Versatile athlete and football player.
Lebron Mathews | 2023 | 5’10” 175 | WR |
I saw glimpses last season of what Lebron Mathews has been doing regularly in the summer as well as early this season. He has been showing his big play ability as a receiver that has him averaging almost 25 yards per reception in 2022. He made some big catches from Sutton, including one for a score against Hannibal. Mathews has good speed and does a nice job using it to get separation from defenders. He did a nice job running routes and was wide open on his catches. On one he was so wide open he had to wait for the ball and the turf made the tackles just before the end zone. Good hands and concentration.

An up and coming two-way line prospect who is a proto-type nose guard. Really does a good job fighting off offensive linemen and clogging the middle using his size and strength facing down multiple players. Contributed 3 tackles on the night but really battled well. He’s a tireless trainer in the off-season, and I had the chance to watch him really focus on getting better. He wants to be the best he can and is putting in the work and it shows. Also a solid offensive line prospect for the Trojans. Has focused more on that side of the ball until this year.
Others Worth Noting
- Kayden Uhlmeyer 2023 DB – One of the fastest players (if not the fastest) on the team and contributed well on defense and kick returns. Had a hand in 11 tackles on the night.
- Brett Smith 2023 RB/LB – Tough fireplug back and linebacker who was the Trojans second leading rusher and also had a hand in 17 tackles on the night.

There aren’t enough superlatives to say about Williams. I knew he was a star after watching his score 6 touchdowns as a sophomore last season against Ft. Zumwalt West rushing and receiving. This season he is even better and is possibly the most complete football player I have seen in all aspects of the game in the past 20 years. He’s a very smart and heady player along with being a physically superior prospect. Runs with speed and power along with being elusive, but he likes the contact, and uses a great stiff arm to keep opponents who get near at bay. Also a superior receiver with strong, reliable hands. Does a nice job playing safety as well. He had 241 yards and 4 more touchdowns on the night to give him 15 scores through 3 games this season. It’s no wonder he is pulling in offers from every football power in the country.
Markahl Humphrey | 2023 | 5’10” 170 | RB/DB |
Talented running back and defensive back prospect who is getting attention from some colleges had a good night both running and receiving the ball for a score on the night. Tough, hard nosed player who goes hard every play and had a really impressive catch getting stuck hard in the back coming down with the ball and managed to hold on. Strong hands. Good speed and plays bigger then his size.
Kane Wilson | 2024 | 6’2″ 205 | WR/DB |
Impressive receiving prospect who I saw for the first time. Plays TE but runs like a receiver and made some big catches on the night. Tough, physical blocker who helped open plays with his downfield blocking. Really good hands and will go up for the ball to make the tough catch in traffic. Look forward to watching his continued development this season and next.

Up and coming sophomore quarterback he did a great job running his offense and leading his team. Smart and heady signal-caller understands the game and doesn’t try to do too much. Made some impressive throws on the night to his receivers and was on the money for the most part through the night. Good arm with nice accuracy. Doesn’t force the ball and has some nice tough. Also a good athlete who can move the ball down field with his feet.
