This week I went down Highway 370 to Papillion-LaVista Foundation Field. One of my favorite stadiums in high school football. Before this week Lincoln-Southwest was undefeated and Papillion La Vista was winless so far. The Monarchs had a tough schedule. They lost in overtime to Millard North in week one. After that they fell in the Papio Bowl against Papillion LaVista South and to Lincoln Southeast. Lincoln Southwest had a good streak starting this week. They would knock down Lincoln High, Columbus and Lincoln East. The questions going into this game were if the Monarchs could pull the upset or would Southwest continue to dominate.

Game Recap

The game started with some huge fireworks Christian Valdez Fuentes would score on the first drive for the Monarchs on a 26 yard pass. Both teams kept battling in the trenches causing time to run out in the 1st. Monarchs would still lead 7-0 going into the second quarter. Not long after the second quarter [player_tooltip player_id='227072' first='Cal' last='Newell'] would get the Silverhawks on the board with a huge run for a score tying the game 7-7. Right before halftime the Monarchs would drive back down and Tavien Pritle would throw it to the edge of the endzone and [player_tooltip player_id='968857' first='Caden' last='Busch'] would make the sliding catch to get the Monarchs up 14-7 at halftime. After some back and forth in the 3rd Quarter the Silverhawks would strike. After a bad snap [player_tooltip player_id='330321' first='Kaalo' last='Evans'] would take the ball and fly all the way to the endzone to score tying the game again at 14-14. The Monarchs would strike back driving down the field right away and [player_tooltip player_id='250380' first='Eric' last='Ingwerson'] would score in the corner of the endzone but the Monarchs would miss the extra point. the score would remain 20-14 at the end of the third. Both teams would get sucked back into the trenches running the clock down. Papillon would finally go down and score on a good run by [player_tooltip player_id='250338' first='Payton' last='Prestito'], along with the score the Monarchs would get a two point conversion as well going up 14-28. [player_tooltip player_id='227072' first='Cal' last='Newell'] and the Silverhawks drove back down and score again going down a touchdown with 1:18 left in the game. Lincoln Southwest attempted the onside but then [player_tooltip player_id='250380' first='Eric' last='Ingwerson'] striked and took the onside kick back and score. This would put the game out of reach and Papillion LaVista would pull the upset over the undefeated Silverhawks 35-21.

Player Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='250263' first='Tavien' last='Pirtle']

Pirtle did everything right last week. He had 9 completions on 16 throws for 1332 total yards. 3 of those 9 passes ended up in the endzone for a touchdown. So far this season Pirtle has 468 total yards in the air and a total of 5 touchdowns. When the Monarchs run together they can be very elite.

https://twitter.com/jedidiahrhardy/status/1570578286136406016?s=20&t=Iprcr06TM15zPg9DVt0gIA

[player_tooltip player_id='250338' first='Payton' last='Prestito']

Payton was a beast on the ground, With 21 carries Prestito had 120 yards averaging 5.7 yards a carry and a touchdown. Per game Prestito is averaging 102.8 yards a game and has a total of 3 touchdowns.

[player_tooltip player_id='227072' first='Cal' last='Newell']

On Thursday Cal had 24 carries for 121 yards. He averaged 5.0 yards a carry and 2 touchdowns. Cal is a very tough runner and will keep pushing through. On this seasons 81 carries for 524 yards and 7 total touchdowns. He will definitely be a key part of the Silverhawk offense for the rest of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='330321' first='Kaalo' last='Evans']

Kaalo is one of the leaders on this defense. An absolute dominate performance last week with 12 tackles and a TFL. Plus his amazing strip touchdown to tie the game. So far this season Kaalo has had 54 total tackles 17 solo and 37 assists. He also had an interception and a blocked field goal. Sadly Kaalo got injured in the game against the Monarchs, however he has shown that he can bounce back and be even more dominant than before.

https://twitter.com/jedidiahrhardy/status/1570587718824103937?s=20&t=Iprcr06TM15zPg9DVt0gIA
