Game Notes, Mastery Charter North vs. Lincoln
In this article:
The two ranked prospects that suited up for the Railsplitters were worth the trip down to Lincoln HS. I finally got a glimpse at Knani Knight, someone I am higher on than his rank suggests. I love that the kid provides quality reps at backend safety, he has a good feel for the position. Obviously, I didn’t come to see Knight the safety, I came to see Knight the quarterback. Consider me impressed overall. Knight tested the Mastery defense on multiple occasions, showing the confidence he has in his arm. Some of his throws proved to be costly, but I still came away pleased with his overall confidence behind center.
On a quick note, Freshman quarterback Samir Tatum started this contest, looking pretty solid for a kid being thrown into the fire. Knight was sidelined for the first half, yet Tatum still was able to run the offense well. The freshman had the luxury of having Koyei Simmons-Greene Koyei Simmons-Greene 5’9″ | 190 lbs | RB Abraham Lincoln | 2023 State PA , who alleviated pressure off both Tatum and Knight. No player on the field raised their stock higher than the senior running back, who ran through the trenches with power and purpose. Not sure of his stats, yet the young man’s running style is suitable for eight-man boxes, something he faced periodically last weekend. Love his downhill running style, KSG was churning up yards at will. He’s certainly a top 50 running back in the state.

Not having all three of these prospects ranked has to change. This is especially the case for Roling Davis Roling Davis ATH State PA , the main target for the Railsplitter offense when they decide to attack through the air. Davis is looking like a playmaker at all levels of the field. He has the wheels to test defenders deep/vertically while having the elusiveness and acceleration possible to take short throws to the house. One of the more underrated prospects in Philadelphia. Dorien Garvin looked good defensively, coming up with an interception in this one that shook up the Mastery sideline. Samuel Scell also provided quality reps on offense, my eyes will be peeled to get Garvin and Scell onto our rankings after the season ends this Fall.

This ended up being a tough loss for Mastery Charter who, to my knowledge, was without their top-ranked prospect Zymir Laury Zymir Laury 6’4″ | 170 lbs | DB Mastery Charter | 2023 State PA .
That being said, Hudaifah Patton Hudaifah Patton 6’1″ | 150 lbs | ATH Mastery Charter North | 2022 State PA was absolutely on one last Friday night. Patton came up big in run support on multiple occasions, shedding and running to the football with an attitude. In pass coverage, Patton’s best and most seasoned area, the senior athlete produced two PBUs while also coming down with an interception off of a Knight deep ball. Patton also took a slant to the house, running through the Railsplitter secondary, showing his ability to impact the game on both sides of the field. He was the best player on the field.
I didn’t get a chance to see Torrian Jones Torrian Jones 6’2″ | 230 lbs | LB Mastery North Charter | 2023 State PA the way I would have liked, yet the senior linebacker is on my list of kids to be ranked after the season, the former Northeast Viking has great size at middle linebacker, while also having a raw yet moldable skillset that I know a college football staff can use. The kid is legit.
The next two prospects caught my eye during this one. Both are primarily offensive game changers, one wants to run through the heart of the defense, and the other wants to run past it. Quite the pair of running backs that Mastery deploys, the tandem compliment each other’s games well. Amir Northern displayed his play-making ability before cramps ruled him out in this one. It seemed like the junior made at least one Railsplitter miss each time he carried the football. Makhi Bouie Makhi Bouie 5’8″ | 210 lbs | RB Mastery Charter | 2023 State PA looked good as well, he’s the thunder to Northern’s lightning. Although this game ended up out of Mastery’s reach, the offense can go places when Patton and this back tandem are all on the same page.
