Week 3 was the week of the ground game, as several running backs across the state put up video game like numbers. However, these running backs weren’t the only ones who shined during the third week of the season. There were also a few defenders that stuffed the stat sheet, and a special teams player that had an impressive game as well. Here are the eight prospects that had Game Ball worthy performances during Week 3.
Offense:
Dylan Edwards Dylan Edwards 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Derby | 2023 State KS – Derby, 5’9”, 165, RB, Class of ’23
The top running back in this senior class turned in an absolutely clutch performance that helped Derby defeat Bishop Carroll in Week 3. With the game tied at 38 late in the 4th quarter, Edwards would break off an 85-yard touchdown run to help the Panthers secure the win. The Notre Dame commit finished with 19 carries for 185 yards and four scores, and also racked up 107 yards on kickoff return with one touchdown.
Allen Baughman – Shawnee Heights, 5’8”, 180, RB, Class of ’24
Allen Baughman’s play hasn’t been talked about enough this season. The junior has been on fire to start the year, and his performance in Week 3 was a big reason why the Thunderbirds were able to outlast the Seaman Vikings. Baughman carried the rock 27 times for 183 yards and found the end zone two times.
Aiden Whitley – Chapman, 5’9”, 175, RB, Class of ’24
The Fighting Irish have had a slow start to the season, but they picked up their first win behind Aiden Whitley’s monster game during Week 3. Chapman is known for their run-heavy offense, and they made sure to feed Whitley the ball against Marysville. Whitley nearly rushed for 300 yards on 36 carries with two touchdowns.
Cooper Hajek Cooper Hajek 6'2" | 215 lbs | ATH Nemaha Central | 2023 State KS – Nemaha Central, 6’2”, 230, LB, Class of ’23
Cooper Hajek Cooper Hajek 6'2" | 215 lbs | ATH Nemaha Central | 2023 State KS is a well respected linebacker in our Class of ’23 rankings, but he may be added to the athlete category after seeing his impressive all-around play through three games. Hajek has been dominating out of the backfield so far this season, and Week 3 was his best performance yet. The senior eclipsed the 300-yard mark against Perry-Lecompton and added four rushing touchdowns to his stat line.
Logan Arasmith – Beloit, 6’0”, 160, RB, Class of ’23
Logan Arasmith is the third running back in this Game Ball piece to rush for over 275 yards during Week 3. Arasmith was the focal point of Beloit’s offense against Republic County, and he turned in a 296-yard and five touchdown performance in the Trojans’ first win of the season.
Defense:
Jett Vincent Jett Vincent 6'2" | 175 lbs | ATH Canton-Galva | 2023 State KS – Canton-Galva, 6’2”, 180, ATH, Class of ’23
Jett Vincent Jett Vincent 6'2" | 175 lbs | ATH Canton-Galva | 2023 State KS has made an immediate impact on the Eagles in his first year with the program. They were a talented team before Vincent transferred in, but he’s been arguably their best player so far this season, and he showed that during Week 3. Vincent returned three interceptions for touchdowns in Canton-Galva’s big win over Solomon.
Skyler McMullen – Great Bend, 5’9”, 150, DB, Class of ’23
Skyler McMullen came up huge in Great Bend’s first win of the season. McMullen’s performance helped the Panthers hold a tough Buhler squad to just six points. The senior piled up 12 total tackles and blocked two kicks on special teams.
Special Teams:
Loup Charlier – Council Grove, 6’3”, 170, K, Class of ’23
Loup Charlier is our first special teams Game Ball winner of the season. He was nearly perfect in Council Grove’s blowout win over Northern Heights, as the senior connected on 9 of 10 PAT’s. Charlier is now 17 of 19 on PAT’s through three games.
