This is a game that started out with a slow tempo from both teams. Both teams ran the ball as effectively as they could. Malachi Castle Malachi Castle 6'3" | 230 lbs | RB Rancocas Valley | 2024 NJ was a standout rusher for RV as coach Lucas insisted on taking advantage of the A & B gaps. Calling a healthy amount of gap runs which helped get RV in the end-zone two times in the first half.
For Eastside they took advantage of read-option runs, and mixed in with much eye candy they were able to find success attacking the perimeter of the RV defense. Armon Castle was literally all over the field for Eastside running and catching the football he was undoubtedly their biggest weapon and he took advantage of all the opportunities in the game.
As the second half commenced RV Head Coach Garrett pulled out the bag tricks utilizing his big athletic quarterback. He used trick play and threw the ball to QB Kevin Burr Jr Kevin Burr Jr 6'3" | 210 lbs | ATH Rancocas Valley | 2023 State NJ for a big chunk gain. Then he started utilizing jet motion actions which opened up the passing game.
QB Kevin Burr got into a groove making some spectacular throws he threw a 43-yard touchdown to Jameir Rollins midway through the third and then he had a tough throw he completed up the sideline while a defender was all over his back before he exited the game.
The second half brought about the biggest difference in the game for both teams. While Eastside’s ground game still was effective by taking advantage of an RV fumble to score a touchdown. Between Ramadan Adams and Carnell Goodwin, there were a couple of passing plays that were missed. Each had inaccurate throws that could of went for big gains. One pass was intercepted because of carelessness. While both quarterbacks are dynamic when you decide to live in a world where you want to play out of structure you have to be smart and careful when playing that way which was not the case for Eastside.
Eastside got it going towards the end of the game. Utilizing 3×1 formations and moving the launch point of the quarterback, using concepts that flooded one side of the field. They ran this concept at least 5-6 times on the final drive. Picking up chunk yardage where Armon Castle made some clutch catch and runs. Nyreek Clyburn Nyreek Clyburn 6'5" | 215 lbs | ATH Eastside | 2024 State NJ ended their final drive with a nice catch for a touchdown on a beautiful 50/50 ball.
The RV defense remained disciplined as they had to defend a fake QB run on the edge where they were vulnerable all day that was actually a passing concept. RV escaped with the win and just barely edged out Eastside Patterson 21-20.
