Week 2 Recap

Bishop Kelly 41 – Capital 6

Bishop Kelly dominated from start to finish, using their tough nosed defense to hold the Eagles to 136 yards of total offense and adding to the score board themselves after Angelo Quilici returned a tipped pass to the house. The Knights offense was led by quarterback Hadley Smith who finished the night 9-15 for 204 yards and three touchdowns along with another touchdown rushing. This is the second week that Capital has started slow on offense only managing to score a touchdown during the final drive of the game.

Middleton 36 – Nampa 34

In a battle of familiar foes, it was Middleton who came out on top in a close battle. Using a variety of different weapons Middleton's offense was able to put up points in bunches led by quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='336859' first='Dekker' last='Hagler'] who had an outstanding night going 19 for 28 with 262 yards through the air and four touchdowns. With help from Sawyer Heck 136 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns and do it all senior [player_tooltip player_id='336878' first='Tate' last='Johansen']'s 161 yards of total offense Middleton got its first 5A win of the season. Nampa showed that this team will never quit led by senior quarterback Daniel Carrillo who ran for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nampa ended up 3 yards short of sending the game into overtime after Middleton stopped them on a 2-point conversion to official seal the win.

Blackfoot 49 – Emmett 32

Blackfoot looked like the team to beat just as the preseason polls have predicted. Led by a plethora of talent on offense especially highlight reel machine [player_tooltip player_id='336847' first='Javonte' last='King'] who had another one-handed grab for a touchdown in the game. Emmett would not go away quietly though and was able to make some big plays against Blackfoot and should be another team to watch out for this season. (Stats were not reported for this game)

Rocky Mountain 30 – Coeur d'Alene 7

Rocky Mountain used its ground and pound offense with its opportunistic defense to send the Vikings home with its second loss of the season. Led by senior defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='336857' first='Troy' last='Wilkey'] who made an impact everywhere for the Grizzlies returning an interception for a touchdown and a punt return for a touchdown. The offense was led by Art Williams who rushed for 145 yards on nine carries, Rocky showed once again that it may have the best offensive line in the entire state. Coeur d'Alene once again struggled on offense, but young junior quarterback Jamison Kizziar is still trying to find his way early on in the season. The Vikings are a perennial power who will rebound don't be surprised to see them get it figured out sooner rather than later.

Meridian 13 – Mountain View 7

Meridian and Mountain View are starting to become on of the top rivalries in entire of the state Idaho. The two programs have been locked in some of the best games of the season year in and year out with the 2022 version being right in the mix. Meridian used it top notch defense to hold the Mavericks to 220 yards of total offense. On offense they were able to capitalize on big plays by senior [player_tooltip player_id='336841' first='Nathan' last='Reynolds'] who took a quick screen to the house and the legs of junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='342488' first='Rylie' last='Byington']. On the other side of the field the Mavericks were not able to play consistently in order to put themselves over the top of a really good Meridian team. Penalties mixed with dropped passes stunted the offense for the Mavericks who were not able to put any points on the board. Defensively the Mavericks may have surprised everyone in the league with what they lost from graduation last season, playing stout defense the entire game.
