While this statistical category can change very often, especially week to week, it is always very interesting to see who remains on the list, and who drops from the list by the time it hits mid-season, or even postseason. One thing is for sure, we have typically noticed a trend of rushing yards leaders maintaining their production throughout the year, especially if they get off to an extremely hot start.
Malachi Banks- Schley County
Not only is Banks an incredible player on both sides of the ball for Schley County, but he is already looking to be one of the top running backs, yardage wise, early in this season. If he can keep up this pace, and can remain on this list remains to be seen, but at this point, he has already accumulated 116 rushing yards in his team’s first game this season. Even more impressive is the fact that he accomplished this on only 13 carries, with an average of 8.9 yards a carry.
Kyon Taylor- Southeast Bulloch
One of our favorite traits that Taylor possesses is his ability to be a great RB, while also being able to turn around and play great defense for his team. Last season, Taylor had more of an impact on his team from the defensive side of the ball, but is already looking to be a huge factor in his team’s offensive success. During week 1, Taylor rushed for 112 yards, and averaged around 6.2 yards a carry. Along with this, he also accounted for 2 tackles, and 1 pass deflection. If he continues on this route, not only will he help his team to be one of the most productive rushing teams, but he will help them to be one of the more competitive one’s.
Jontavis Curry- Thomson
Curry, who has already performed well in the first game of his freshman season, will more than likely be looking to top the rushing yards he put up for his team last year. Last season, he totaled around 959 yards, and had a total of 8 TD’s when doing so. This year, Curry has already accumulated 103 yards in his first game on a mere 13 carries. With this, he also averaged around 7.9 yards a carry, and 2 TD’s by the time the game was over. If he can continue to put up a high volume of yardage week to week, he will easily see himself among the top 30-40 backs in the state this season.
Gage Digiovanni- Southeast Bulloch
Digiovanni, who happens to be a QB, has already made a name for himself after one week of high school football, as he has totaled more rushing yards than plenty of the state’s running backs to this point of the season. During week 1, he put up 100 yards on the ground, while also passing for 47 yards and 5 completions. As the season progresses, if Southeast Bulloch wants to perform well in any kind of way, they will have to elevate their level of production in the passing game as well.
Tre Jeffries- Thomson
Jeffries, who is a 2025 prospect, did not see much time at the varsity level of play last season, proven by the fact that he only totaled 292 yards last year, with a total of 47 carries. These days are already in the past though, as Jeffries is already off to a great start with 79 yards, on 10 carries. In addition to this, he averaged around 7.9 yards a carry during his week 1 performance, and will be looking to add to this total as the season goes by,
