Teams have gotten stronger in the weightroom and their players have matured on the field. It’s time to see what this season has in store. Who will be the last twelve teams standing in Hattiesburg the first weekend of December?
Louisville vs West Point
This is an old time rival right here. In the last 15 years Louisville has only beat West Point once and that was in 2019. These two teams do not like each other. They may have respect for each other, but they do not like each other. You have 21 state championships between the two. West Point is going to line up attempting to run the ball down Louisville’s throat. Kahnen Daniels Kahnen Daniels 6'1" | 185 lbs | RB West Point | 2024 State MS will be the factor on offense. West Point will do all they can to get him into open space. They are going to come out and play hard nosed defense under the leadership of their new defensive coordinator. They are going to be flying to the ball left and right. Their defensive line will be doing what they need to do to get a mean push on Louisville’s offensive line. The key to their game will be rattling Louisville’s young QB.
Louisville is going to be very similar with their defense. Coach Javancy Jones thrives off having a ‘shiesty’ defense. They fly to the ball and don’t mind laying down big hits. The key to stopping West Point for the Wildcats will be playing very hard in the trenches. Their LBs are aggressive and they have a secondary that can help out on the next level. This game shouldn’t be a problem for Louisville’s secondary. This will probably be the most tackling they will have to do all season. They are going to have to be ready to come up and make some good open field tackles Friday. Their offense is going to spread the ball around. The last time these two teams played Louisville came out on top 38-28. It was behind the passing game of Louisville. If Louisville can spread the ball around and make good stops on defense they have a great chance to win this game.
Oxford vs Brandon
Oh how sweet is to witness these two 6A programs face off the first week of the season. Both made the playoffs last season and Brandon made it to the state championship. These two teams both have a lot of talent.
Oxford has Mack Howard Mack Howard 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Oxford | 2023 State MS slinging the rock on offense this year. Mack is committed to Utah and he is a true gun slinger. He has a lot of help on that offense. They can run or pass. Coach Cutcliffe has a lot of options on the offensive side of the football. They have some receivers who can stretch out and go get the peel. They have some RBs who know how to tote the rock. Oxford also has a nice defense. It is going to be great to see Alex Sanford Alex Sanford 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Oxford | 2023 State MS , Jr. up again this great RB core that Brandon has. The question is will their secondary hold up against the passing game Brandon has. Brandon has a way of getting yards in the air just like Oxford. Lester Miller Lester Miller 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Brandon | 2023 State MS and his receivers are ready to test that Oxford secondary. They have a few guys in that receiving group who can can cause some problems. This is going to be a very good first week game in 6A football down in Mississippi.
