When the seasons start to ramp up, watch out for these under the radar athletes that will have big impacts for their teams, and will turn heads by the end of the year.
Josh Roman Josh Roman 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Mountain View(Tucson) | 2023 AZ Jr, Quarterback, Mountain View (Tucson)
6’0″ 185 lbs quarterback/athlete. Roman when lining up at quarterback, shows his high football IQ and strong arm. Great use of eyes, moving safeties and backers away from where he wants to go with the ball, and can make any throw that is asked of him. Dual threat when needed, he has the legs, the moves, and the toughness to tuck the ball and run for extra yardage. Great poise in the pocket, stands tall and puts the ball where it needs to go. Enjoyed watching Josh make plays anywhere he lined up, and should make a strong impact in the fall.
Keron Watson Keron Watson 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Cienega | 2023 State AZ , Wide Receiver, Cienega
6’4″ 200 lbs and the size jumps out to you as soon as you see him. Big frame, and he uses it to his advantage. Make tough catches in traffic and with cornerbacks all over him, and can make a big play out of nothing. Can run the deep go route, the short cross, and the screen off the line of scrimmage, he can do anything you ask of him. Watson also shows his ability to block down field on multiple plays on film, and I bet not a lot of corners want to be blocked by a 6’4″ receiver down field. Watson is a big play threat wherever he plays, and I would love to see him play some tight end and be able to attack the middle of the field on some plays. Regardless, he is a special player. Already on college radars, expect Watson to get more colleges calling once the season starts.
Dylan Thomas Dylan Thomas 5'10" | 280 lbs | OL Millennium | 2023 AZ , Wide Receiver/Cornerback, Sahuaro
6’0″ 160 lbs athlete who plays on both sides of the football. Good speed, athleticism, and can be plugged in anywhere on the field and make an instant impact. Good hands and can run any route and create space to make plays. On defense, Thomas can make open field tackles, play out wide or can play in the slot, and even cover backers out in coverage. Versatile student athlete, and should be on college coach’s radars ASAP.
Will Way, Defensive End, Defensive End
6’4″ 240 lbs, strong kid who is sneaky quick for his size. Right away you watch Way and you see his size and he sticks out on the line. But it’s his quickness that is impressive. Moves very well; off the line of scrimmage, in the pass rush, and chases down ball carriers for tackles. Uses the right technique in every instance. Correct shoulder used on pulling linemen, goes horizontal down the line instead of rushing too far up field, and finishes tackles with authority. Plays with speed and plays hard on every play, Way is force on the D line and can’t wait to see him play this season.
