Top 5 2023 Week 1 Preview

All 5 players are facing great teams today or tomorrow, and you know opposing teams have targets on these guys' backs. I love the tradition of MLK playing an out-of-state team week 1, and [player_tooltip player_id='30316' first='Dante' last='Moore'] will face an opening challenge against a defense filled with college talent. Still, Moore and the Crusaders will be the heavy favorites in this one, and I expect the #1 recruit in MI to expose the Central Defense. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#2 [player_tooltip player_id='162650' first='Jalen' last='Thompson']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Thompson will be facing off against Southfield A&amp;T this Friday. Even though A&amp;T didn't have the best season last year, they have an incredible offensive line with 3 linemen with D1 potential. Even though Thompson is the #1 DL in Michigan, he will be tested and you better bet college scouts will be at this game with their eyes on many prospects. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#3 [player_tooltip player_id='30317' first='Johnathan' last='Slack']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As said earlier, Slack and Detroit MLK will be facing Warren Central tomorrow. Central has an incredible front 7 with two near-elite players at the MLB and DE positions. Whatever college scouts will be there, they'll look at matchups with players like Slack. Even though Slack is committed, if anyone were to perform well against him, that would do wonders for their recruitment. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#4 [player_tooltip player_id='30318' first='Amir' last='Herring'] </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Facing a great Stevenson team, [player_tooltip player_id='30318' first='Amir' last='Herring'] will have a good test against a good MAC Red team. Most of Stevenson's talent lies in the skill positions rather than the from 7, so I expect Herring to dominate this game and protect his QB well. Let me just leave this here: I think Semaj Morgan will torch the Stevenson defense tomorrow. With a great offensive line, a rising star QB, and a great run game, Semaj will have every opportunity to torch a good defense on an elite balanced offense.
