1. Scottsbluff Bearcats, 1-0 (Preseason Ranking: #1)

Next Game: North Platte 0-2

Scottsbluff opened the season with a 26-6 win over then #9 Lincoln Pius X.

[player_tooltip player_id='245849' first='Sebastien' last='Boyle'] looked like the dominant back from last year.

The addition of OT [player_tooltip player_id='227064' first='Brock' last='Knutson'] is going to pay dividends in this rough, power running class.

So many playmakers on the defense. LB group might be the best in the state.

2. Bennington Badgers, 1-0 (Preseason Ranking: #2)

Next Game: @ Plattsmouth 0-1

The Badgers showed zero signs of a Post-Championship slump with a 44-13 thrashing of #5 Skutt Catholic.

I've been saying, [player_tooltip player_id='227551' first='Nick' last='Colvert'] is going to have a big year as an all-purpose back. 145 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 80 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown.

The DL was have a field day behind the line of scrimmage with 6 tackles for loss. [player_tooltip player_id='330902' first='Ethan' last='Nguyen'] had a big game with 5 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and a sack. [player_tooltip player_id='330916' first='Weston' last='Heinemann'] had 10 tackles and a tackle for loss.

3. Elkhorn Antlers, 1-0 (Preseason Ranking: #3)

Next Game: Norris 0-1

Survived a close one against Waverly who always fields a pretty solid squad.

Couldn't find much in terms of stats for the Antlers but they return a great group of seniors with several players that were waiting in the wings from last year's squad.

OL and DL are going to be their strengths.

4. Gross Catholic Cougars, 1-0 (Preseason Ranking: #7)

Next Game: Omaha Westview 1-0

Over 300 rushing yards, the Cougars dominated on the ground with RB [player_tooltip player_id='227094' first='Jake' last='Garcia']'s tough running and big OL [player_tooltip player_id='227558' first='Salvatore' last='Nacarelli'] and [player_tooltip player_id='239895' first='Carson' last='Almgren'].

Defense was flying around and saw a lot of contributors.

[player_tooltip player_id='307090' first='Colby' last='Duncan'] did a great job handling the offense and went 10/14 for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nothing fancy just very efficient and mistake free

5. Skutt Catholic Skyhawks, 0-1 (Preseason Ranking: #4)

Next Game: #9 GI Northwest 0-1

Lots of youth starting for the Skyhawks and the buzzsaw that was Bennington made for a long night for them.

Despite the rough loss, I still see a lot of talent and potential in this Skutt team and they could be a force once they iron out some growing pains.

Tough matchup against #9 GI Northwest who will also be looking to get in the win column. A win against the Vikings would give them a lot of momentum going forward.

6. Blair Bears, 1-0 (Preseason Ranking: #8)

Next Game: @ Omaha Buena Vista (Forfeit)

The Bears exploded on offense with 129 passing yards and nearly 350 rushing yards.

Two Blair backs went over 100 yards rushing; [player_tooltip player_id='250307' first='Ethan' last='Baessler'] and [player_tooltip player_id='319567' first='Brock' last='Templar'].

[player_tooltip player_id='169937' first='Bode' last='Soukup'] threw for 129 yards on 9/15 passing with 3 touchdowns to one pick. Overall a very promising start of the year for a QB that is on a list of breakout candidates.

7. York Dukes (Preseason Ranking: #10)

Next Game: @ Hastings 0-1

Gritty win over a playoff team from last year.

The offense was able to gain lots of yardage.

Offensive and defensive lines got great push at the line of scrimmage. Plenty of studs in this group [player_tooltip player_id='242139' first='Kadence' last='Velde'] and [player_tooltip player_id='330917' first='Jude' last='Collingham'] are just two of many to keep an eye on.

8. Waverly Vikings, 0-1 (Preseason Ranking: #5)

Next Game: @ Beatrice 0- 1

The Vikings came close to getting the win over formidable foe Elkhorn, but ultimately fell 21-17.

Nonetheless, they showed a lot of fight and the defense made several great plays including a pick-six by [player_tooltip player_id='239889' first='Cooper' last='Skrobecki'].

Once the offense gets settled, this should be a very good team moving forward.

9. Grand Island Northwest Vikings, 0-1 (Preseason Ranking: #6)

Next Game: @ #5 Skutt Catholic 0-1

Tough 43-13 loss against rival Aurora Huskies was a rough season opener for the Vikings.

Northwest is normally a very tough and gritty team that should rally and make a run in the late stretch.

[player_tooltip player_id='245573' first='Victor' last='Isele'] is still one of the top edge rushers in the state.

10. Seward Bluejays, 1-0 (Preseason Ranking: NR)

Next Game: Pius X 0-1

[player_tooltip player_id='239951' first='Kalen' last='Knott'] stepped right in for departed QB Gavin Sukup. Kalen went 13/19 for 203 passing yards with 2 touchdowns and a pick. He also added 81 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

RB Nolan Hill also had a big game with 114 games and a rushing touchdown.

A win over fringe top 10 team Pius would help solidify them as a top 10
