Continue ReadingLast season, as plenty of additional QB’s took snaps for their programs, we got to see their progress, or first season at the varsity level. For plenty of Juniors across the state, it was a huge step forward, and an opportunity to grow, and progress as prospects. Below, we have listed a few QB’s, who regardless of the background or specifics in which they came from in previous seasons, still found ways to succeed, and mold themselves into better players, even if a majority of people have never heard of them. Take some time to watch them, and read up on them, as we are sure they will shine next season.

During his Junior year, Weisman did not put up extremely gaudy numbers, but he did a good job of leading his offense, and finding ways to produce in the passing game. In fact, he threw for over 2,000 total yards, and finished the season with an average of around 203 yards a game. In addition to this, he also completed 120 total passes by the end of the season, with a fair amount of them being touchdowns. To be specific, he passed for 17 TD’s, which is 11 more TD’s than he threw interceptions, and he only had 6 turnovers in a 10 game span. Going forward, we would like to see him translate his skill, and efficiency into wins,as this will be a huge determining factor of success for him next season.
Matthew Bruce- Veterans
Just like Weisman, Bruce played in 10 total games last season, in which he averaged 200 yards a game. Out of all of these games, he finished the season with 134 completions out of the 230 total passes that he threw. While this completion rate can certainly be improved, we do feel that he is a talented prospect, and that he has a good bit of raw talent and developmental ability at the QB position. This can be seen in the fact that he threw for 10 TD’s, and 11 interceptions. Next season, as he continues to grow and develop, we would hope to see him improve in his overall decision making, and the way he translates his raw talent, to wins.
Hunter Kirkley-Westfield
Last season, Kirkley threw for 1,977 yards total, and did so in an 11 game span. While this is impressive for a high school player, we certainly feel that he can throw for more next season. Nevertheless, within the sample size that he presented from last season, you can tell that he is a bit of a raw passer, and athlete as a whole. He averaged around 179 yards a game, and had a completion percentage of around 61%. In addition to this, we also like the way that Kirkley took care of the football. This can be seen in the fact that he threw for 23 TD’s last season, and only 10 interceptions. If he can continue to replicate this same kind of success, while also growing in the way that he views the field, and makes decisions, we think that he has a great shot of taking a big step next season.
Robert Mcneal- Bowdon
Even though Bowdon football does not get plenty of attention, we still see the program as something worth tracking, and keeping an eye on. Last season, Mcneal did a solid job of leading his team, as they finished the year with an appearance in 2 playoff games. In these games, he passed for a total of 1,961 yards, and an average of 163.4 yards in the air per game. In addition to this, Mcneal also threw for a completion percentage of 61 percent, which is a direct reflection of the shots that he took down the field, and in mid-range. Out of all of this, what is most impressive is the fact that Mcneal passed for 20 TD’s and only 3 interceptions throughout the duration of the season. If he can continue to manage to stay on this pace next season, we have no doubt that he will have his fair share of success.
