For the class of 2023, there is no shortage of quality players and here are five players that are new to the rankings that are looking to have a great Senior season this fall.
Timiko Jackson Timiko Jackson 5’11” | 180 lbs | DB La Salle | 2023 State OH is the 11th ranked DB and the 69th ranked player in the class of 2023. in 2021, he helped the La Salle Lancers to a win season and advance to the 3rd round of the playoffs. He plays as a CB. Against the run, he quickly keys and diagnoses the play, plays at a good level and delivers a nice form tackle preventing a gain of significant yardage. Against the pass, he Does a good job of reading the WR while using his good play speed to stay in phase down the field. He shows good ball skills as he gets is hands in the way at the right time to disrupt the trajectory of the ball for a PBU.
Mitch Bolden Mitch Bolden 6’1″ | 200 lbs | QB Lakota West | 2023 State OH is the 9th ranked QB and the 100th ranked player in the class of 2023 overall. In 2021, he led the Lakota West Firebirds to an 11 win season where they averaged 32.9 points per game and advanced to the 4th round of the playoffs. He reads the entire field and shows very good football intelligence as he quickly finds the open receiver. He delivers the deep ball with very good arm strength, accuracy and touch. On short and intermediate passes, he puts the ball on the correct shoulder of the WR maximizing YAC. On zone reads, he displays very good play speed and athletic ability as he outruns all defenders on a long touchdown run.
James Thomas Jr. James Thomas Jr. 6’6″ | 290 lbs | DL Fairfield | 2023 OH is currently on the watchlist of the Prep Redzone rankings for the class of 2023. In 2021, he helped the Fairfield Indians to a 6 win season where they advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs. He plays as a DE. Against the pass, he shows good burst off the ball with very good closing speed in pursuit. He quickly pressures the QB into passing the ball earlier than anticipated. Against the run, he uses his great burst to quickly penetrate the LOS. He displays good instincts as he takes the correct angle in pursuit and shows very good play strength as he makes the tackle in the backfield for a TFL.
Collin Remenowsky Collin Remenowsky 6’1″ | 260 lbs | OL Moeller | 2023 OH is currently on the watchlist in the Prep Redzone rankings for the class of 2023. In 2021, he helped the Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders to an 11 win season where they averaged 31.7 points per game and advanced to the Division I semifinals. he plays as a RG. While run blocking, he shows good quickness getting to the 2nd level to block the ILB. He uses his hands well winning battles with his hands inside and plays until the whistle finishing the block to the ground for a pancake. In pass pro, he plays with a good, wide base while bending at the knee and keeps his feet moving. He delivers a powerful punch to the frame of DL showing great physical toughness as he finishes the block to the ground.
Joey Wassler Joey Wassler 6’5″ | 225 lbs | TE Saint X | 2023 OH is currently on the watchlist in the Prep Redzone rankings for the class of 2023. In 2021, he helped the St. Xavier Bombers to a 10 win season where they averaged 37.4 points per game and advanced to the 3rd round of the playoffs. He lines up inline as a “Y”. He shows very good play speed combined with great route running ability as he breaks open. He shows good hands as he makes the catch with his hands with ease. He is an outstanding run blocker as he uses his quality play strength and use of hands to drive the OLB several yards off the ball before finishing the block to the ground for a pancake.
