During these matchups, there were plenty of takeaways, for the best, and the worst, but when it comes to some of our favorite programs that played against each other last week, the future’s looking bright. Below, feel free to take some time to review our favorite takeaways from some of week 1’s matchups.
Cedartown vs. Rockmart
Even though many high school football fans throughout the state of Georgia may not have taken the time to keep up with this matchup the way they may have kept up with the others, Cedartown and Rockmart ended up being more of an interesting matchup than given credit. While Cedartown may have won the game 27-14, the way that Rockmart was able to display a well balanced attack on both sides of the ball was very impressive. By the end of the game, they witnessed themselves run about 48 plays, with a total of 11 first downs in the mix of this. Rockmart also played disciplined for the most part, and even though they had 4 penalties, they saw a total of 10 penalty yards from it. If they can continue to trend upwards, while incorporating what they did well last year, expect one of the biggest takeaways from this game to be the potential that Rockmart may have to potentially make the playoffs.
Walton vs. Mill Creek
Many eyes were on Mill Creek and Walton this past weekend, especially due to what could have been viewed as one of the better matchups the state had to offer. These expectations were not let down, as Walton fell to Mill Creek, but in a close 47-41 game. This Corky Kell classic did not feature as much defense as some of the other matchups this weekend, but the high flying offensive players, and talent were on full display. Players including the likes of Jeremy Hecklinkski,

. The way things were looking for the high level of each team’s offensive execution, we were able to take away that each team’s offense will lead them to plenty of wins this season, even despite any defensive blunders and setbacks.
Collins Hill vs. Life Christian Academy
Even though Collins Hill does not have some of the irreplaceable talent that it had last year, including players such as Sam Horn and Travis Hunter, they still managed to make a huge statement against Life Christian Academy, and anyone who may be doubting the potential that they have for this season. By the end of the game, Collins Hill saw themselves on the winning end, 20-0, with their offense not being as explosive, but still effective, and their defense being a huge rock for their team. This season, except other stars to shine for Collins Hill, including some takeaway players such as

Norcross vs. Brookwood
After a close matchup last week, both teams walked away from things with plenty of positive takeaways, especially from an offensive and defensive standpoint for both programs. While Brookwood may have come away with a 28-24 win, there are plenty of high expectations for each team going into the season. Both teams seem to have a highly talented returning offense, including the likes of each team’s talented QB’s, and balanced running, and passing attack. Each team’s defense seems to be formidable, and talented enough to help a team make a run in the playoffs. Aside from this, another huge takeaway that we have is the fact that we fully expect

to have a great season this year, especially with it being his last year before he heads off to Alabama.
