Let’s analyze some key players that you are going to want to watch during this one.
Brandon Valley High School
Where do you even start with the talent and ability that Brandon Valley has but has not only shown that they can succeed with over the past few years of play. Led by their rocket arm quarterback Lucas Slack Lucas Slack 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Brandon Valley | 2023 State who seems to always make good throws no matter what amount of coverage he is facing or the amount of pressure that is coming to him in the pocket. He can maneuver around the pocket with ease and make throws look just too easy. Navarro Schunke Navarro Schunke 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL Brandon Valley | 2024 State SD , and Andrew Bunkers Andrew Bunkers OL Brandon Valley | 2023 State are stonewalled for their quarterback, and they do a fantastic job at making sure he is protected. Both of them are excellent are interior run blocking and exterior pass blocking, allowing them to stop anyone coming their way and being elite while doing it at their position. With a wide receiver tandem of Nate Andresen Nate Andresen 6'4" | 195 lbs | WR Brandon Valley | 2023 State and Dylan Langerock, you get a mix of a slot receiver with great catching ability and a deep threat who can get above defenders and make hard catches look easy as a whole. Their defensive unit is nothing to scoff at either having a fantastic front seven who have the abelites to stifle any offense that tries to get past them. Cade Brummels has established and well-earned status as a pass rusher that the quarterback should always keep an eye out for, seemingly always finding a way to get to the quarterback. Caden Dowd is a defensive anchor at the middle linebacker position who punishes run games and pass games alike. Dowd is an anchor and a leader for his team to win, for his play on the field and his defensive IQ to help his team win. Brandon Valley is simply loaded with talent at all ends of the field and this will not be any different from the years before, expect to see them having an elite year with a stacked roster and great team chemistry to boot. This will be in a show of full force in their match-up against O’Gorman and will be an explosive start to the season.
O’Gorman High School
O’Gorman will face tough competition in Sioux Falls with their cross-town neighbors, but they have always seemed to hold there on the grounds of talent development and abilities within their coaching staff. Headed up by Bennett Dannenbring Bennett Dannenbring 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB SF O'Gorman | 2023 State , the smart and game-manager-minded QB with great abilities to always find the right receiver when he is in the pocket. Dannenbring has great talent and it will be interesting to see what he can do with the talent around him and the passing ability that he has at his disposal. O’Gorman’s main talent on their roaster that we see on the defensive side of the ball with stalwarts and stars alike is their overall ability to stop offenses in their tracks. Nate Ratzlaff Nate Ratzlaff 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Sioux Falls O'Gorman | 2023 State will be back as an always reliable and otherwise extremely talented middle linebacker who has a knack for breaking up players and his pass coverage that is second to none that we see at the middle linebacker position. Gabe Tschetter Gabe Tschetter 6'1" | 185 lbs | LB Sioux Falls O'Gorman | 2023 State lines up with Ratzlaff on the defense, who can provide edge rushing and excellent overall pressure to help his team’s ability to disrupt the flow of the offense. These two make up parts of a linebacker unit that has come to be known as one of the best that all of South Dakota has to offer. O’Gorman will be a tough opponent for their style of play that will stop offenses in their tracks and make sure their hard hits are felt and known to the offense. Matching up against Brandon Valley will be tough but it will be a great start to get some experience for the season, and hopefully be the start of something great for this season.
