Louisville
Louisville has always been a team that thrives off being physical on both sides of the ball. Every gold ball that made its way back to the 39339 was brought back behind the tough aggression that Louisville brings. This year that same aggression will be back on RE Hinze Field. On defense they have guys flying to the football being very ‘shiesty’ as their defensive coordinator, Javancy Jones, likes to say. Their defense doesn’t give up much and Friday was the same way. They had a few times where they missed assignments, but nobody is perfect. When it was time to step up they made a play and got the ball back in their young QB’s hands.
Their offense will be lead by a sophomore QB this year. He does not approach the game like a sophomore. He plays with confidence and stepped up big for them on the last drive Friday night. Their running game looked good as well. They have some young offensive lineman that got a lot to learn, but their learning full speed. That’s the thing I like to see out of that bunch. The ball will get spread around on this team. There are some good receivers on this team. Defenses are going to have their hands full with this bunch. They play tough and they get after it. Louisville is going to have a good season. That probably isn’t a shock to anyone.
Grenada
Grenada started off last season rocking and rolling. Things started to get tough in their division play. I often tell people that if they were in Region 1-6A they would make the playoffs every year. It’s hard to make the playoffs when you are going up against some of the best teams in the state every Friday. I saw some things on offense that looked good for them. They do a great job when their QB is mobile. Whether it is a read option, designed QB run or a bootleg, their offense thrives when he is moving. They have a hard nosed RB who was sticking his head in there toting the rock with heart. The Chargers have some big receivers standing out on those islands. If they can find a way to get these guys the ball and get them in the mix that will help out a lot this season. They have to be innovative with their offense. They can’t just rely on the running game every Friday if they want to make it to the playoffs.
Their defense was holding it down for them Friday. They made mistakes here and there. Louisville bowed up and scored on that last drive and it was just hard for Grenada to stop their offense. Their secondary was giving up a lot of yards on that last drive. They need to get that together fast. A lot of teams in their division are going to be slinging the ball. They did a good job pressuring the QB. It would be good for them to key in on some those plays this season when they need to apply pressure.
